    cooling system flush 3.9 V8

    Gday All,

Best way to flush the cooling system ?? Done a search but nothing really showed up about giving it a flush out. Are those coolant flush bottles you see in the auto parts stores worth it.

Thought was to remove the bottom hose and wedge the hose in there and fire up the car and let it run .

Suggestions or a better way would be good.

    Cheers Ean

Mukowt made by Tectaloy is a good cleaner for systems that have used conventional coolant, then the big reverse flush.

    Mukowt is an alkaline cleaner.
For OAT and HOAT coolants you use an acid based cleaner to prepare and neutralise everything.

If you have a copper/brass radiator it is usually worth it to have the tanks removed and rodded.
Cleaners can only do so much and the stock radiators have fine tubes.
BUT be prepared to lose the core.

My Natrad 3 core was clear after 10 years of regularly changing coolant and using distilled water.

I dont know the history of the car so was going to start from scratch , good flush - new coolant and see how we go.

That's a really good suggestion on something with an unknown history.

I've always found radiator even with reverse flushing and all sorts of messing around .... Always seem to flow freely with no issues ............................ Even if they are 95% blocked when you pull the tanks. The ONLY way to be sure it to take it in and have the tanks removed and rods passed through each tube to make sure its clear. Its the best money you'll spend on it ( especially for the piece of mine ).

don't forget the viscous unit too

Flushing is a complete waste of time in my experience ..... (having said that, I flushed my tractors radiator ... and you could actually see the tubes in it cleared when I unscrewed the radiator cap. It must be because the tubes are so large, they let foreign bodies pass through and out)
