I have no cost salvage rights with the Shannons policy for my POS. You don't have that?

Sure a RRC can be 'written off' just by denting a couple of metallic painted panels but the reality is they usually can be rebuilt.

Is it a statuary write off (like bent chassis) or just sum insured vs cost of repairs?

An option is just putting another body on the same chassis if it just a cost write off. The bodies didn't have a VIN till about 1993. Just a colour change with Vicroads.

Can you you buy the wreck? Just some thoughts Shane.

I intend too... it'll be quicker and easier to move its driveline to another vehicle than change and repaint all the bolt ons. we have the front munched, bonnet, front panel, front left guard. I took at the rear quater as it span around .... the two doors have minor dents. So I'd need to change quite few panels. The inner guard has pushed over and munched the radiator tank (otherwise I would have just driven home).

Its comprehensively insure through shannons ... but only for $3,000. I intend to keep it. I'll convince them to leave it registered and not WOVR it if I can.

I've had a good look aroudn at all the Rangies for sale. Everything below $5000 looks liek a "restoration project" rather than a reliable driver like mine was. I might have to move all the good bits to the "parts car" here and register it. My parts car is in nicer nick than a lot of the Classics for sale ........ But its in a lot of bits. I'll need the insurance company to write my car off and get it back to me so I can move the missing bits back over (unless I find something nicer in the meantime).

Most Rangies are overpriced for what they are but it's a supply and demand market, since RRC's are becoming a lot less common than they were a few years ago they go for more money. I seen a couple of decent ones on gumtree for about $2k (that's what I paid for my 92, same as yours except in maroon) but a lot are worth over $5K are not worth that. Lot of sellers are taking the **** IMO but some poor bastard will pay too much. Good early 90's RRC range from a grand to about $4k, unless it's exceptionally tidy or very low kms (seen a really low km 93 Vogue for sale on car sales for close to $40k, had to check twice thought I was having a nightmare!!)

Hope you can save yours, you would be better off as long as there's no structural damage to the chassis, firewall etc..

I pay thousands of $$$ in insurance every year..... Why would I want to go through the hassle of chasing someone elses insurance company and wasting months of my life trying to get them to write it off for more than $500 ....... If I put in a claim through shannons, it should be repaired or written off pretty quickly! .... and if I try to follow up on it, I can ring up, and an aussie will answer the phone, without sitting in queue for any length of time

Sorry to hear of the accident good you’re all ok. That’s the main thing. Me - I’d be thinking I’ve had two “ incidents” and all walked away. Do you believe in things running in three’s? Just saying be careful for a while.

well I've been driving since I was 12years old .... and other than someone running up my bum when I was 18years old .... I've never been in an accident. Yes, I've been really lucky..... I just can't work out why people want to crash into such an ugly fortified looking 4wd [bighmmm] A lot of people have crashed into it carparks (into its bullbar and rear ARB bar show signs of many colours of paint. I've watched several people drive into its bullbar while I'm standing beside the car .... I don't get it .... can't they tell just by looking at it, its the equivalent of driving into a stationary freight train ).

Well I urge all of you guys to have a look at the Rangie market. You may find your way under-insured. I'm thinking my ****boxes replacement value is around $6500 + RW costs + registration + transfer etc.....

The towie came and towed it away today (so hopefully I'll hear soon from the insurance company). He told me while I was in the cab filling out the paperwork, the police carted the other driver off in a divvie 'van ...... So it looks like I was taken out by a drink driver ..... groan ....

Because you have a much better chance of getting it repaired as it wasn't your fault - I've had the same thing happen some years ago and I forced the other parties insurance to conduct a repair more than $2K more than its value, but it can be a long shot. your call in the end - it's a pretty ****ty situation - I hope you find something to replace it.
