Anyone had an early 90's Classic for sale

Some bloody women wiped mine out at a round-a-bout. She didn't slow, didn't brake, didn't give way ............ Didn't even seem to notice there was an intersection there. I managed to steer up onto the round-a-bout as much as possible so I didn't T bone her dead centre. But the poor old Rangie will effeminately be a writeoff as it's market value is so low

Damn it ... that bloody car was a brilliant heap of ****. First time in I've been in an accident since I've got my license (25 years).

That will teach me for using the spell checker ... Yeah, the kids were in the car too. I wasn't going fast, but I stll gave her car a decent hit. She admitted fault as soon as I went over to see if she was ok "I'm sorry, I didn't see you ...". I don't think she saw the actual intersection itself ( up a slight hill/crest at night). She is a local though and should have known to slow and check .... No-one is hurt, that is all that matters.

I am going to need another Rangie though. That one was a brilliant heap of ****.

I know you love RRCs and I did also BUT IMHO look at a Disco 2 V8 .
Now so cheap, and are MUCH more reliable than an RRC.
There is more than 10 years worth of advances from a RRC to a D2 yet the D2 still has the basic structure of an RRC eg solid axles, windscreen, Doors, but as well has much more room in the load area and a much more solid rear structure particularly around the rear door.
They don't ride as well as an RRC but IMHO that is about the only negative.

D2's don't age as well as a Classic, too much plastic crap to fail and too many dodgy circuit boards and relays. Nothing beats the simplicity of a good RRC (fitted with a LT230) for pottering about in the bush.

    I'd have concerns about a D2 V8 engine which is the same as a P38A 4.0

I'm not really interested in Discos ... A friend has a low milage TD5 Disco II with a blown gearbox sitting in his drive .................... But I just don't have any enthusiasm for them.

I've had a good look aroudn at all the Rangies for sale. Everything below $5000 looks liek a "restoration project" rather than a reliable driver like mine was. I might have to move all the good bits to the "parts car" here and register it. My parts car is in nicer nick than a lot of the Classics for sale ........ But its in a lot of bits. I'll need the insurance company to write my car off and get it back to me so I can move the missing bits back over (unless I find something nicer in the meantime).

Well yes the plastics are crap, but cheap and some good replacements are now being made like the Malaysian plenum cover.
I have lost one bit in 5 years, a B pillar cover which blew off, probably from someone pushing the car by it. Outback 1 sold me one cheap. The A pillar covers can be sikaflexed on.
An early 90s RRC has a Borg Warner which will do a rear output shaft at 200KK.14CUX is nowhere near as good as Motronic and D2 generally has Bosch electrics. The awful Magneto Marelli alternator in a 90s RRC has to be replaced by Bosch. Get the wheels wet on an RRC and you are usually up for new bearings, and the steering is crap compared to D2 which has zero offset. The swivels leak all the time.
Traction control reduces the need for lockers. I haven't had a relay or circuit board fault in 5 years.

The 4.0L engines do have problems which should have been fixed by now , but so does the 3.9 which the poms regard as the worst of the lot. They are exactly the same in bore and stroke. 4.0 vs 3.9 is marketing and was introduced because the Jeep Cherokee had a 4.0 litre engine. Don't EVER overheat either and they usually last.

A lot of 38As were overheated when new as LR tried out about 4 or 5 different designs of top radiator hose because the hose was higher than the radiator and caused air locks. I witnessed this myself on a trip when a 38A blew off its top hose .
A lot of 38A problems arose from that

Another major benefit of the Classic is the readily available pool of cheap spare parts courtesy of compatible D1 and defender parts. All later V8 engines are backwards compatible with the 3.9 so if you score a rebuilt 4.0 or 4.6 it just drops in with just a few hours work swapping non engine block bits. And apart from the ECU every other electronic part can be swapped out with reliable brand parts or deleted and it'll still go. And with a 300Tdi conversion or LPG you don't even have to rely on the ECU.

But if you think that electronic acronyms increase your driving pleasure who am I to argue!

Yeah the guys at work asked were talking about my "old car" ...... Bloody old .... gee's. I told them its the newest car I've ever owned ( come to think of it, everything modern bores the **** out of me)...... "1992 is new" I claim ................... So they said "Was anyone here born in 1992" ......................... Yep, they sure put me in my place .. the then exclaimed "not me"
