    Rust prevention?

    Hi
I've got a 75 RR that has spent it's life in the dry west. Rust free inside and out with lots of red dust in nooks and cranny's.

Just wondering on advice about rust prevention?

Both for general use and for the once a year sojourn down a sand track or low tide beach run.

    Any thoughts appreciated

    Kon

I've just finished cutting rust out of a 1984 RRC...or so i thought. Sandblasting, in preparation for painting, has shown up a couple of extra spots needing work.

Spot welded lap joints should be treated. Get light oil, for example, into the joints and/or seal the lip edges, top and bottom. This includes vertical lap joints in the a/b-columns

Rear passenger area, behind legs, carpet is glued to upright panel work. Check the carpet padding has not held moisture and accelerated rusting of the panel.

    Check wheel carrier well.

Check coach to chassis mounting points. If my vehicle is typical, then the mount points just under the c-pillar suffer once the rear wheel arch is penetrated by rust.

The rear luggage compartment is supported by two struts running cross the chassis. Cracks can form where the struts bolt to the panel work.

Test protective coatings under the floor of the coach work to see if there is still good adhesion, otherwise re-do.

Check drain holes are clear of debris. this includes pillars, floor sill channels, and rear coach cross member.

Move to the desert...the vehicle is more important!

Thanks for the reply - I had figured I'd be just spraying the underside with something to avoid future corrosion!
