I'd love to know the height of the thing from the manifold up too.

    DL
The spacer under the sniper is around 30mm and the height from the top of the manifold to the surface the air filter sits on is 112mm, so the sniper body is approx 82mm tall to the air filter mating surface, there are a few inlets that are slightly higher, but these are under the air filter base.

It looks like the TPS is stuffed, i did some searching the web last night, and a few stories similar to mine where after cleaning the engine, the TPS faulted! As you can see from the pics, it is well covered and you'd need to be trying to get it wet. Mine and virtually all the other people with the same issue were extremely careful not to get it wet... It gives me concern about how it would handle river crossings!!

    Cheers

I recall the TPS is a 0-5v output. Check as close as you can to the TPS allows. Also check the wiring too - may be a bad earth or some interference or the likes.

Doing a bit more digging around to figure out exactly what i have bought..

The sniper doesn't idle well, it is hunting a couple of hundred revs, low and behold i see a bit of rubber hose coming out of the PCV port on the inlet manifold, surely it is blocked... No one would spend the $$$$ on a single plane manifold and sniper and not block the PCV port! just to check, i fire the rangie up and stick my finger over the end of the hose, yup, you guessed it, totally open, tons of vacuum!

So i think if i can get a suitable bend for the PCV hose, i'll run this right back to the rocker cover and block the PCV port on the air filter base to stop all the crap going through the sniper...

The old girl should be running sweet just by sorting out all this stupid stuff

    Cheers

How does your crankcase vent then? My engine leaked until I replaced the PCV valve (and hose) with a chinese honda knock off and hey presto, nice dry engine block.

The sniper PCV inlet should be on the bottom of the unit, so I doubt it'll do any harm to the sniper.

Hi Drover, the PCV is plumbed into the underside of the air filter base.

I decided to remove the sniper last night, so i can check all the cables for damage, and at the same time clean up some of the plumbing.

Thinking about the port at the back of the manifold, it is probably for vacuum to a brake booster, i am wondering if it would be a viable point to run my PCV to? It would save any oil vapour going through the sniper, or would there be too much vacuum at the point??? If it is a viable option i might look at sourcing a different rocker cover to neaten up the plumbing i think a 3.9 left hand side cover fitted to the right hand side could provide the solution, do you know of any inline filters i could use? when i unscrewed the rover PCV valve from the rocker cover, there was a lot of what i think was burnt oil, i'm assuming gravity is not helping with any oil collected in the filter dropping back in tiny amounts onto a hot baffle in the rocker cover and burning.

I think i'm going to start from scratch with the install wizard once i get the sniper refitted, i've ordered a new TPS, do you have any experience with them? I think the software asks for a air/fuel ratio target and idle speed, i have no idea what these values are, i'd assume idle would be somewhere around 800-900rpm, but A/F ratio i have nothing... any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers

shouldn't the crankcase ventilation hose narrow down to a very small orifice.... I don't think I'd run the full sized hose back to the inlet manifold anywhere. You would probably end up sucking engine oil back through the motor and burning it ?

The big one is the brake booster vacuum assist. I wouldn't plumb anything else to that.

Off the top of my head, I've got 3 things plumbed at the back - brake booster, vacuum gauge and charcoal cannister. Each has their own hose/connection.

My PCV is plumbed to a small outlet on the front on the bottom - just above the intake manifold. 1/8 hose from memory.

When you say you unscrew the PCV, what I think you're talking about is the flame trap (filled with wire wool). The PCV is connected to the top of the flame trap with about a 5/8 hose. The valve is then plumbed to the sniper.

As for the AFR figures - I'm running 14.3 at idle, 15.8 at cruise and 13 at WOT. I'm not 100% sure if it's right for the engine, but it seems happy. Idle is 625/650 (can't be sure from memory).

    Hi Drover,

Thanks for the info re sniper settings..

There is nothing after the flame trap, just a hose as pictured running to the air filter. Is the PCV valve in the flame trap?

    Cheers

    Thanks Shane,

yeah i had reservations on using the brake booster fitting, i'll get a plug to blank it off.

I have just purchased this pictured plenum as i want to get rid of the sports air-cleaner and run the original rover air filter into a snorkel...

I'll have to figure out what exactly i need for the PCV. While it is apart, i'd like to tidy up all the little things i can.

    Cheers
