    4.6 GEMS Transplant

    Hi Blokes,
I have a project on the drawing board which involves removing the old 3.5 Hotwire engine and replacing it with a 4.6 Gems unit, there are a few things that I am unsure about regarding the electronic inputs, I was wondering if any of you blokes have done a similar swap.
If so would you mind sharing your experiences with me.

    Regards:-
    Patrick M.

Did you ever go ahead with this or source any info? I am considering the same for my 94 Classic. No3 cyl liner is weeping at the top.

Are you wanting to fit the GEMS system or just the engine itself & keep your EFI set up?

    4.6 GEMS Transplant

    Hi Blokes,

I have been away for about 12 months so if need be I apologize for not responding to any thread comments.
No, I have not done anything physical as far as the transplant goes due to being interstate.
I am now in Newman (back in WA) but am still hamstrung because all my workshop gear and tools are in my shipping container South of Perth. With getting to Newman, we arrived in Perth for Christmas, time enough to, visit the kids for Christmas, pick up VILET from storage, give here a good service, load her up to the gunnels and hit the road, she ran like a dream and with good fuel return as well, well as good as you would expect from a tired old 1986 Rangie, a real joy to drive though, cruising speed was over 12$#&*.
Anyway at present I am trying to work out ways of getting some stuff up here so I can get started on it all because it looks we are going to be here for a couple of years.
I will be using the GEMS system and doing away with the 14CUX Hotwire, I did a fair bit of research on a number of systems and found that the GEMS ticked all the box's to suite my needs.
I am still open to good ideas and choices though.

    Regards:-
    Patrick M

Sorry for the very late reply, it's been one of those years.

I have stopped the seep with some "Perma-seal" for now.

I am still thinking of the 4.6 transplant at some stage.
Obviously the easiest would be swap my EFI and dizzy over but I would prefer using the GEMS complete system.

I need to research how to connect electrcally, replace ECU etc.

It has been done so it is possible. You might need help from someone like LABtronx to get it to work though.
