    fuel pumps

    Hi All,

the shiny ****box is a '92 model with a plastic tank. Can I just fit a quality pump such as a VDO branded pump into the existing housing. Such as this:

NEW GENUINE VDO FORD LTD DA DC DF DL FUEL PUMP 3.9L 4.0L 5.0L V8 6 CYLINDER | eBay

All of the pumps on ebay for the car look like cheap chinese ****.

    seeya,
    shane L.

AFAIR the pump to use is a Bosch from a VK? Commodore .

The filter is the wrong shape as it is with the one you posted, but usually the old filter is OK.

If the old filter has even the tiniest hole it has to be replaced as I found when my pump had the inlet blocked by paper from the unleaded fuel filters that they used to have in NSW on unleaded pump hoses.

Oh the terminals are the wrong way around big slide on vs small so have to be switched.

You can usually use the old hose on top of the pump but if you damage it you have to get special hose that can be immersed, not just hose from Supercheap.

I'm going to have to go into someone that stocks these things with a pump in hand and compare. This is the VK pump here:

I used one similar or the same and mounted it externally.
    it worked ok.
From memory it will suck through the old pump.....I remember reading somewhere
Mine is used drawing from sill tanks as I have twin gas tanks where the original fuel tank was.
With gas being so expensive now I am considering putting the fuel tank back and removing the gas so will have to re plum it all again...I just need some time.

Go the LPG... the stuff is 59cents a litre here at the moment I have two pumps here, but neither appear to supply enough fuel pressure to run more than a tiny amount of throttle before it leans out. I'm hoping to replace the pump itself on the unit currently out of the car.

The Holden ones look too short. The Ford looks more correct AFAIR (from about 10 years ago)
Still be wary of the terminals.
But I am sure I used a Bosch Holden one.

I think someone said somewhere in another thread that the internal pump can be replaced with a VN/VP pump and all you have to do is swap the terminal connections, I can't remember which thread it is though. it is a cheaper replacement pump for the one in the tank though.

LPG is 89cpl today but has been at 99.9 and above.
My tanks need checking, and its much more powerful on petrol. I only drive it on weekends, so cost wise it dont matter any more as it is not my daily driver!
I like the gas, but the govt has made the cost too much.
gee I remember when I paid 30cpl way back in 2003.
I forgot to mention mine is the flapper type as well.

All being normal in my life.... I figured I'd just get any pump that should fit and see if the car runs properly on petrol.

    Fuel Pump for V8 3.5L Land ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES 1 10/91-12/93 FPE-371 | eBay

Typical. I buy chinese **** and end up with chinese **** that doesn't work properly. I couldn't it to to even prime itself. Finally its primed and there isn't enough fuel flow to even keep the engine idling. At least it would run on petrol with the worn out old pump in it (you just couldn't use more than about 20% power without it leaning out).

I'm going to let it sit in the tank for an hour or so (incase its just the new filter that needs a good soaking to work) and then contact the seller. Wish me luck 'cos how can I prove its there pump and not my car
