Borg Warner Transfer Box - Test

Im getting a little chirping from the wheels on tight right hand turns.

Ive tested with one front wheel lifted, transfer in N and hand brake on. It takes 112NM to slowly turn the lifted wheel.

Not quite sure how to interpret this. Is it normal or a partially failed viscous unit?

The reading I've done suggests when they fail they are either locked open or closed.

If on smooth concrete eg car park that is normal.

I used to place a big screwdriver in the front driveshaft to test mine, and it took a big effort. The effort is proportional to the speed of movement so slow is easier. If you were trying to turn it fast then you would have a big effort.

IMHO if it moves at all it is not seized, If it moves freeley it is stuffed.
