    The hard sell... or is it

    Anyone here recently sold a classic or know someone who has bought one ?

    I'm trying to work out how to put a price on accumulated bits n pieces and whether or not offering them with the vehicle or keeping them in a separate transaction is a good idea.
    Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

    I have a view that, especially with the recent actions of LR Heritage starting to buy up AU oldies, there is going to be an increase in the value of older Defenders, RRC etc - including useable parts, so I'd be inclined to factor that in.

    One of our local members has a good condition RRC 2 door that he might be forced to sell after a recent redundancy - I doubly feel for him.

    I'm on the flip side with my eye out for a classic rangie.

    Most I have looked at over the past few months have been incorrectly advertised when it comes to condition, rust, how many parts are missing etc. Including a few advertised as "one of the cleanest you will ever see" with prices to make me think I shouldn't look any further.

    Still the hunt continues Its a sickness!

    Par for the course. I looked at a few recently and they were asking over twice what I honestly believe mine was worth, which makes me wonder if I am living in some kind of depressed bubble or if I am just a pragmatist.

    It's a very good question, and I myself wish that I knew the answer.

    There is no doubt that prices for 2 doors (especially the early ones, say 1970-1976) are high (for the right one).

    It's true that prices have gone crazy for these models.

    It's true that LR bought all of the good ones and have put them through their rebuild process.

    But I've also been told that a lot of them have not yet been sold, and that LR don't need any more at this point in time - this could be because of a (let's face it) global recession..

    Anyway - having a 76 2 door (that I am restoring), and an 89 4 door, and a 93 4 door (that needs work) - I am left wondering (especially in the case of the 2 door) - keep or sell? And - how far do I go with the restoration?

    Sure there are crazy prices being asked for 2 doors - but are they actually selling for these crazy prices?

    I certainly wish that I knew the answer to that question!

    I think that the problem facing both buyers and sellers of early Rangerovers, and other Landrovers, or, for that matter any classic cars, is that it is a 'thin' market - there are not many sellers and there are not many buyers. Which makes prices unstable.

    Add to that the effects of the current recession, which is likely to get a lot worse before it gets better. This means that we will have both distressed sellers and buyers looking for something to do without going out, leading to even more uncertainty in prices.

    And I know this does not help!
