1993 RR Vogue Plus Central Locking/Immobiliser

My beloved classic let me down the other morning. The vehicle wasn't locked after its last use the previous day (everything was normal on that occasion) and on getting in and trying to start the car I experienced no response at all when turning the key to the cranking position. All pre-start indicator lights and noises appeared to be as normal and after checking the auto shift lever position (neither P nor N made any difference), I tried cycling the remote lock/unlock and got no response. I tried manually locking and unlocking the driver's side door didn't trigger the central locking. I then noted that the alarm/immobiliser LED on the dashboard was not lit. I checked the relevant fuse (C7) on the main fuse panel and it's OK. I have since tried manually locking and unlocking the front passenger door (which should trigger the central locking) and got no response.

On checking the comprehensive (turns out to be not sufficiently comprehensive) workshop manual I bought when I purchased the car 19 years ago I foud that the section covering the updated central locking/alarm/immobiliser system in the 1993/94 models does not include the circuit diagram for the system.

Can anyone help me to source the relevant circuit diagram and/or diagnose the fault? Its almost as though the unit is not getting power but the relevant fuse on the main fuse panel is intact. Not sure where to go from here!

I'm in Como. The manual I have is the 2-volume set published by Bookworks. I bought it from Barbagallo years ago.

Don't know if your immobiliser is the same as the D1, but that is the same trick that they pull. The immobiliser is a sealed canister, p/n: YWJ500020,
It is usually referred to as a "spider". There is a plug in bypass option, p/n: AMR4956, but it may not be legal where you are.

    AMR 2108

The 1993 RR has an updated central locking/alarm/immobiliser unit labelled AMR2108 that is triggered by a single button remote key fob. Not sure if the unit itself has failed or if a power feed to it has blown a fuse in a hidden location!

Problem diagnosed and a workaround installed.

Thanks to gavinwibrow for providing the information that enabled me to run a series of tests and diagnose the problem. The tests confirmed that the central locking/alarm ECU AMR 2108 has failed. I was able to identify the ground wire from the starter relay circuit and install a jumper wire from Pin 1 (the B/W wire) of the white 6-pin connector C2 to vehicle ground enabling me to start the car. Now I just have to find a repair tech who is familiar with these or find a replacement (discontinued part so very scarce). Meanwhile, back to manually locking and unlocking the doors!

    Sorted!

Having found a workaround I located a business in the UK which specializes in Automotive remote entry systems UK, Car Key Replacements | Remote Key Fobs & Immobilisers | Remote Key, UK and which had access to some new/old stock units. I couldn't find anything in Australia, nor could I find an instrument technician here with experience with this particular model. The guy at Remotekey was very helpful and sent me a replacement ECU with two key fob switches. The Australian market frequency units (315 MHz) are not available so I was supplied with a UK model (433 MHz). I installed and tested it this morning and it's working perfectly! I traced the fault on the original unit to a failed voltage regulator and filter capacitor on the ECU printed circuit board, quite a common problem with these units apparently.

Thanks again to Gavin for his help.

    Unhappy LUCKYOZ

Just had the same thing happen to my 92-93 Classic Vogue S.E. and wasted $250.00 on an auto electrician who advised that yes then engine immobilizer is the problem but he has no idea about how to go about fixing it ?

Can anyone suggest a temporary fix or someone who knows their way around the classics ? - i know this is an old thread but i'm hoping that someone still sees it who is more technically minded as i need to get this car out of my daughters carport and back to my place soon as she is about to move house.

Electricity etc. was never my strong suit
