    OK, so back on topic.

My RRC is getting there - now my work, tow and holiday vehicle. After rescuing it from a barn nearly 3 years ago from a family friend, it took me 2 of those years to get it back on the road. The most needy (and partly tedious, but possible thanks to a whole donor vehicle) jobs were the replacement of the ABS brakes to standard (pump was a goner), upper tailgate replacement and one rust hole in the floor on the driver's side, sealing up all the oil and coolant leaks in just about everything - the more satisfying tasks were to transfer all the nice stuff from my now very sad D1 - 2" springs and Bilsteins, HD cranked trailing arms, front bash plate, diff guards, whole rear axle (mainly as the brakes were newish on the D1), Gotti wheels, on board compressor, etc. I also rebuilt the front calipers and installed DBA rotors. Since I got it on the road just before the end of last year, I have put in Falcon electric fans, 100amp alternator, water pump, fully built out the back for work and trips, made a couple roof bars as an interim to something better so I could carry long materials. Today I just finished installing the Ashcroft rear locker I had sitting on the shelf which was intended for the D1, as well as the Ashcroft HD axles I found on ebay last year. Soon hopefully the Long Ranger fuel tank from the D1 so I can go more than 300km ish before stopping (the main thing I miss from the TDi is range, but the V8 RRC sounds, feels and runs so nice its worth it). The set of mud terrains on steel wheels and the spare wheel carrier are all in the garage and set to go for a trip somewhere. A few photos attached.

    89 Rangie

Mine isn't suuuper hard core, but it does alright.

89 Rangie, 3.9 V8 (serpentine belt engine from a 98(?) Disco) rebuilt with standard parts, AU thermo fans and a big arse aluminium radiator, ZF 4 speed with LT230, Detroit locker rear and ARB air locker front, 32X11.5 Muddies, Lots of trial and error playing with the suspension to get it working.

Most likely to be seen haunting the Otways.

I have two, one set up for serious off road and the other project which will be my touring car that I will take up to the cape. I have stopped feeling sorry for them, parts are still really cheap compared to other 4wds...even ones the same age as a classic. There seems to be a growing trend of keeping them stock as they fetch good money now, but where is the fun in that. Best part about a classic, is that it can do everything a defender does but with much better comfort levels.

Might be time to stock up on some panels, but other parts I believe will remain cheap as there is such a big following for these cars globally.
