That is interesting. The Vbelt V8 alternator was so different to the serpentine belt V8 .... that I didn't even try to make it fit ..... I found a use for the Vbelt alternator though ....

The parts are readily available probably still.
They have a removable brush and rectifier pack .
You had to get one with ears and a bit of spacing here and a grind there would line up the pulley.
The adjuster had to be lengthened.
The other issue was that they used to make a bit of noise that could upset the electronic ignition and that was fixed by either rerouting the dizzy to coil wire or adding coax earthed at both ends.

But I think you would still be able to get parts anywhere whereas I don't have a clue about Bearmach part availability , probably zero like bloody Magneto Marelli.

This one but with ears rather than the tube.
    Alternator Bosch 12V 85Amp Universal
Just for a matter of reference - BOSCH BXF1238A apparently fits very well and is available from SuperCheap Auto. I almost bought a new one a while back, but instead i bought a Bosch alternator from an XD falcon (with air-conditioning - this is higher amp) from a wrecker. It was in poor condition but i was able to rebuild it using parts from a Bosch alternator from a Volvo 240GL (and two new bearings for $6 each). I've seen a similar alternator in a '73 Cortina too. My alternator is only 55 amps, but worked out to be 5 times cheaper than the new Bosch unit.

The auto electrician that sold me the bearings said there isn't much that goes wrong with the old Bosch units. He didn't have very good things to say about the new Bosch alternators though as he said they are built in China.
