Front Bumper Compatability.Crush Cans.
A local Land Rover parts and repair shop had a big clearout of old stock.
Among the dusty boxes of stuff forgotten about for over a decade, they put this stuff up online, and couldn't believe the luck when i saw some plastic crush cans for a soft dash front bumper with styrofoam inserts, new old stock in original bags .wow.
These things are rarer than unicorns,Score.

I had bought a soft dash type bumper from ULR in Melbourne many years prior, with the thought maybe one day i'd get to use it,or keep it as a spare if i hit a tree.
It was useless without those plastic can covers tho,so sat in the shed forever until this day.
As an aside ,anyone looking for them,i subsequently stumbled across a site that has replicated them in the states, not cheap tho but.
Range Rover Classic Crush Can Covers - Congleton Service
Purely subjective ,but had always liked the look of the soft dash front end,but having owned a soft dash, still prefer the hard dash classic.
Two minor reasons, the soft dash instrument binnacle sits higher and restricts the glasshouse panorama a bit,and the thing always made me feel like i was sitting in a disco 1.Still a very cool ride though.
For anyone needing to change their front bumper but unsure of compatibility between the two types, this may be useful.

Bumper removed.

The easiest method i found was to undo the four bolts holding the entire bumper and skirt, easy access with a 9/16 socket.
This avoids trying to undo the 4 long bolts holding the mounts in place through the chassis which are awkward to reach around the driving light recesses. There is also a bolt each side,on the lower front wing that holds the outside edge of the skirt on,easy to forget and have that mass hanging and bending panels if forgotten.
Undo the driving light connectors
Remover headlamp washer jet hose connector, have something to plug hose asap, else free shower under car.
Mounts off next.
(For info, the soft dash bumper has brackets pre welded into the bumper,so does not use these.
If replacing a soft dash type bumper with a standard version, you will need these to fit onto the chassis holes.)

Remove skirt from bumper.
Remove headlamp washer jet.

The plastic skirts differ slightly between the two types.
Where the standard one has solid plastic behind the number plate area, the soft dash version has vents, and also is cutout to accommodate the deeper crush can mounts. This makes the skirt quite flimsy, usually a good thing
Both are still available.
Maintaining the original meant using the dremel to cutout part of the skirt to fit,but still more robust than the later type.
Bit of fettling to finetune the gaps but the crush can covers hide the cuts.

The new bumper was chrome.ANR244,and not having a rear to match, tried my hand at wrapping it.
Used some Avery Dennison gloss black and after watching a you tube vid on roughly how to do it,gave it a crack, turned out alright.

Before mounting the bumper ,i held it up to the chassis to check it would fit.
Minor freakout as quite a 10mm gap between the chassis and mounts on the bumper.
Then realised i'd removed the mounts which had a good 3mm of metal each side and noticed the bumper mounts were slightly flared out so would pull in with the bolts in place.
Used some thick washers to pack out the gap.

Reinstall new bumper with everything attached if possible.
I was doing this after dinner so asked wife to help, she was juggling minions so thought bugger it,i'll do it myself, haha
Lie on back, rest entire bumper on chest, rough placement, slide a bolt through bumper chassis mount each side, now supported.
Wife now timely arrives to help done.
