I'm pretty slow moving at times :)
A local northern beaches "Land Rover Expert" (not Ayers) refilled my gearbox with gear oil years ago, which, in the long term, did it no good.
I am still using 20W50 as anything else either makes the gearbox too hot (if it's thicker) or its too thin and leaks. When my gearbox is cold, and it wont go in to 1st, I just ease it into 2nd then back into 1st. Living with an old car is and art form.
The similar sounding "expert" in a similar location replaced the rear main seal on my 91 RRC many years ago (about 20, time flies) and while doing the job left the transfer case on the floor where it presumably emptied.
I drove to Newcastle and back and just by coincidence checked the oil level and it was empty (about 100Ml)
Needless to say I was rather upset by this oversight and wrote threatening dire actions if he did not warrant the case for a year.
In the end the case had no problems for a long time although the output shaft stripped at 220KK. Those Borg Warners are tough old things aside from the rear output shaft.

not sure if mentioned but Dexron 2 ATF autobox oil works well in the R380 especially where temps are lower.
worth a try
had problems with hard shifting when cold way back with my Mazda with similar problems and the dealers under recommendation from the factory changed to ATF and never looked back.
The R380 is a much different gearbox to a Lt95.
This was Penrites response. Their GL4 75W-90 Pro Gear is available in 2.5 litre packs. And they also recommended similar product Shift eze as Nulon equivalent. Finally, i drove this gearbox for twelve years and am well familiar with double de clutching, going into second then first etc. But it was not changing as well as it had. Will put some kms on the 15w-40 and see how it goes. Again thanks all!
