    RRC Headrest Escutcheon Pins Question

Does anyone happen to know if the Softdash/LSE escutcheon (grommet?) pins that fit into the top of the seat and hold the headrest shafts in place are the same as pre 1995 RRC's please. Certainly the D2 has a different setup.

Most sites say no longer available for the pre-1995 version as I think part number BTR3636LUL Item 4 top left hand side in pic below

Funny you posted about this now... I just had a brief "hey you should really be making these small interior RRC plastic bits again - you'd make a mint" conversations with a guy who works at JLR parts classic in UK. As one of my examples of a part that is simple to make, cheap to tool up, and they can mark up 5000% from cost of manufacture without most batting an eye, I mentioned the headrest escutcheons.

He said "we are considering it and log all requests"

That said I can confirm that pretty much none of the pre soft dash RRC headrest escutcheons, in any color, for any year are available new anymore (unless you luck out and find a NOS source). I was going to try soft dash ones as well, so let me know.

(it couldn't be that hard, I was going to try out a set of D2 ones as well)

Yep, just re-affirming both that mine is a softdash, and from personal memory, the D2 ones are very different.
Can I ass/u/me at this stage that the D1 versions could be similar to/same as the softdash?

Definitely want a full RRC softdash set if anyone is prepared to make them.

If you have access to a 3D printer I can put a design I did for my 1992 hard dash RRC on Thingiverse to share.

    Cheers

    Very generous suggestion Dave.
Maybe Dave/Incisor, the owner of this website, who has a 3D printer could be talked into producing some as a sale item via the aulro shop. I'd cc this to him if I knew how.

    YXX2777LUL vs BTR3636LUL

I recently needed to replace my escutcheons as two out of the four had snapped in the middle (probably as a result of small hands using the front seat headrests to enter and exit the rear seats!).

Anyway, I searched everywhere for BTR3636LUL and continually found that all suppliers were out of stock. I did however find that there is a general replacement part, YXX2777LUL. The catch with part YXX2777LUL is that I think it only comes in a lighter grey colour (no options). Not sure if this answers the original question at the top of this thread.

Long story short, I found a guy in the UK who was a retired small business parts supplier and I purchased from him what stock of YXX2777LUL that he had left. As per other's comments, this was not an inexpensive exercise and I ended up paying a landed cost of around $25 each. Also, these replacements did not come with the metal spring insert, but I still had these metal inserts from the originals which fitted straight in (I think you could bend up a small piece of metal pretty easily to do the same job anyway).

I've added a picture showing the new part that I purchased and the old snapped one that came out of the car. Hopefully the picture is also showing the different colour to the one that was in the car originally.

I expect that these plastic components are likely to fail in the future, so I bought more than I needed so that I have a number of spares, but that still leaves me a few available for anyone who needs one and I'm happy to pass them on at cost. I'm pretty new to this forum so do people private message me if they want some?

That is bonkers awesome. Pity I don't have a 3d printer.
Looks like I better buy one.

Hi Max, I've been looking everywhere for YXX2777LUL and can't find any in any colour. Do you still have any available?

    YXX2777 Escuctheons

If anyone needs some of these I am going to start producing them and I also have the paint to colour them either YXX2777LUL (Grey) or YXX2777SUA (Saddle Brown).

My design will have the clips and I'm looking into matching the texture of the originals. I'm not sure why the 3D print above doesn't have the clips but would love to know?
