    gearbox removal

    Hi Guys,

I'm just in the process of dropping the gearbox out .... and those damn bell housing bolts .... AARRRRhhhhh.... You pretty much have to have the motor ready to swing out on a hook before you have enough access to get to those damn top bolts.

Has anyone tried just remove the gearbox and leaving the bell housing behind before ? This would be a tiny fraction of the work!

gee's I'm a moron .... I was just laying under to see if I could seperate the gearbox from the bell housing .... and all of the bell housing bolts are readily accessible from below as I've dropped the gearbox down enough to get the transfer case out.

not hard, deep socket, short wobble drive, long wobble drive, normal extension and then undo them from the top left and right side of the box as you lay under it.

an impact driver makes very short work of it.

Ta, might have to see how one runs on 18 volt AEG batteries.......... that's all I have.

Thanks also for the very succinct info on disconnecting a gearbox from donk in a RRC.

I'll have to do something with my 700k km anchor block at some stage, even though it still runs fine. I'm aware about taking the engine mounts out first.

yours should be simpler, there ins't the slave cylinder housing and extra stuff in the way with an automatic

I've managed to chase up another R380 and transfer case .... the problem is you need to fit the damn things to find out if they are any good
