The ignition box is currently at Los Angeles Airport, its taking longer to arrive than I expected. I have managed to lock the mechanical and vacuum advance on a spare distributor I have in preparation.

I am looking forward to how you go with this, I have an A&R ignition module kit from RPI in the UK.
Now I am very keen to be able to adjust the timing.

So my first question would be, does the programmable unit replace an ignition module, or work along side.
It's not very clear on the website, I'm hoping it works along side.
    cheers,
    Ron.

The ignition box arrived Friday and I installed it over the weekend. First I had trouble determining which wiring diagram to use, tried 3 different ones, first two didn't work but it fired up on the third. I chose the V8 single carb map, one of the maps that comes with the unit.
Once its going and you have the software running on your computer you adjust the distributor so its advance reads the same as the software, that's about it. Once warm it runs really well but for the first few minutes when its cold it hunts really badly between around 400rpm and 1200rpm. Another thing I had to do was richen up the mixture on the Blos around 4 turns to get my air/fuel ratio back to the figure it was beforehand. Took it for a short drive and it all seems to be working ok. Now I need to fine tune it and take it for a longer drive, then I will start to work out my own map to put into it.

I contacted CB Performance and it looks like, especially when cold, the RPM reading has a lot of noise, it jumps all over the place causing the engine to hunt. Once the car has warmed for 3-4 minutes its all ok and it runs quite well. They suggested I try some resistor type spark plugs, so I am off to get some NGK BPR7ES.

I finally have worked out the wiring for the Black Box ignition. I have also changed the module to a Bosch BIM024 and the coil to a Bosch MEC717. It works just like they claim, its programable for both RPM and engine vacuum. I have tried a couple of maps and you can feel the difference and see what the timing is doing on the laptop which I was driving around with. I think to set the timing properly I will have to put it a dyno.

When I had the normal distributor in the Range Rover I noticed, after playing around, it liked much more advance down low in the rev range and much less advance up high in the rev range for LPG. Today I put a MAP into the Black Box which had these features. What a difference it has made, and then after I tuned the LPG to run on this MAP it went even better. I would recommend this to anyone over getting a distributor re-graphed, and if you get stuck with no LPG you could load in a petrol map (but you would need your laptop with you). It has taken me a few weeks to get running properly but if someone wanted to fit one just use the updated wiring diagram I have attached (The last one wasn't quite correct) and you would have it running in a day.

    Thanks Richard,

    That's great info.

Is it possible to do some sort of graph with advance /rpm on lpg?

Your observations match some of the info I posted, i.e. all in down low, then less than petrol over 2000rpm.

Do you realise your latest wiring diag appears to have the coil bridged + to -?

    cheers, DL

The white/green to coil -ve and the red from module +ve out to the coil +ve are not connected they cross over each other.

This spark table comes with the software its called "V8 Single Carb NA". I initially loaded the table and there was a definite increase in power over what I was getting with the old distributor. I have changed it to better suit LPG, I will try and get a screen shot of the improved table I drew up. But with the new LPG table I have both higher advance at low revs and lower advance at high revs.
