Hi Phil,
My 1980 Rangie has black edges on the lights and black bumpers, but looking at ads on Carsales several 82 cars have black edges at the front and clear at the back. You would think they would have been more consistent, but it’s maybe just what they found in the parts bin when they were putting them together. There’s probably no two completely identical Classics left now.

I like you, would have expected some consistency, all black or all clear.
As my left rear tail light has a black banded side reflector, I’m assuming it has been changed at some time and perhaps all the rest of the rear lights are without the black band and assume they are original. They all have lots of tiny cracks and crazed, so they have been on a car for a long time.

i have considered patching the roof as you have described, but my head keeps telling me to get it welded.
I have a MIG welder but it is a bit of a cheapy and only good for mild steel, plus I’ve never welded aluminium even if I did have a quality machine.
There are extra holes in the doors from alternate mirrors and someone also had bonnet straps so there are some more holes in the front guards.
Maybe I’ll get a mobile welder to come along and weld them all up [bighmmm]

Modern epoxy is pretty stout. For small holes thats what I'd use.

Not sure about tapping down the holes because the roof is so soft you could end up with indentations far bigger than you need.
If you're going to do it that way then do the grinding first and then tap down to get a proper chamfer to be filled.
