    Lowering a Range Rover Classic

I’ve searched for information about lowering a RRC but there is little information available.
My 82 RRC has been raised and has 110mm front bump stop clearance and 140mm at the rears.
It currently won’t fit through my garage door
I can either return it to standard height with original springs or lower it 1” with these from Famous Four.
Heavy Duty Front Coil Springs (FF001947) for Range Rover Classic 1970-85

Heavy Duty Rear Coil Springs (FF004156) for Range Rover Classic 1970-85

It will not be used off road and I intend to fit front and rear anti roll bars for a nice flat street/highway ride.

Has anyone had experience lowering their RRC and has anyone used these springs.
The unfortunate thing about the springs is the horrendous postage price from the UK 123GBP

    Regards
    Phil

Personally I wouldn’t put heavy duty springs in an RRC - they ruin the ride quality - been there, and have since removed them and gone back to standard spring rates - you can get a variety of heights like this which will
    maintain the ride quality.

I’d call Les Richmond Autos - they understand Rangies very well in all areas and particularly springs - they have a huge range and would give you good advice on how to get the ride height you’re after and maintain the comfort.

    I second that LRA.
Just be sure your hydromat is in good nick before you put stock springs in the back, as they are only AFAIR 160Lb per inch and the stock fronts are 130lb per inch.
Oh and you must have good shocks also.

I'll differ here..............the OP is not going to use it off road. He doesn't need the articulation that is the main purpose of soft stock springs and a Boge.

My pos came with Pedders 2" HD springs and no Boge unit. Springs haven't sagged in 25 years.

On road it handles like a car, without the body roll you get with stock springs and a working Boge unit.

Shocks that are soft on compression and stiff on rebound would suit.

That's what I did to mine, but I didn't like the ride after I did it - was much harsher so I went back to the originals. Horses for courses - I agree the body roll is a lot less with the HD springs.

    Tanks for the comments all.
I contacted Les Richmond Auto today and they don’t do standard or lowers springs mainly because no one ever buys them. All their sales are stiffer and taller.

They did say that a standard height RRC is pretty low anyway.

My take is that standard height/rate springs with good dampers will give me the plush ride I’m after and anti roll bars to keep it flat through the bends.

Ditch the springs and run air bags…….than you’ll be able to lower and raise as much as you like

Have been thinking of doing this to mine - mainly because the boge is stuffed and to keep it level I’ve had to put stiffer springs than I want to in the back. Or at least use the standard springs with a couple of bags to keep it level when loaded.

With a 25% stiffer spring rate and 1" lower ride height, if those springs are constant rate as they appear to be, then you will need shocks that are shorter than normal as well. 350RRC is also right on the money with regards to how you would need to spec the valving on the shocks for that setup to retain a nice ride, but you will still get harshness because you will be on the bumpstops all of the time when you hit bumps.
    Cheers
