A question for answering please.
Was the thick rubber underlay, particularly on the floor between front seats and the firewall standard in all late model (softdash) RRC's?
And/or did some still use the felt type material?

Gav,
Mine's hard dash oct 91 built (my92) and has the moulded neoprene rubber covered foam underlay. I'd guess that it is either universal from the 80's or perhaps came with the facelift that included the concealed door hinges.... - just a guess.
If yours is completely shot, suggest ripping it out, resealing the floor, particularly any panel overlaps joins etc with proper panel sealant goop, then paint with epoxy enamel primer/sealer and then use dynamat extreme / carbuilders butyl rubber deadedning and sound insulation to build up the thickness to match original foam underlay.
longterm it's a better solution - closed cell foam = no moisture/water retention, which is ironically what the original stuff does, because the floors were never properly gap sealed or primed/painted/rustproofed.
bet you find surface rust on your floorpans and possible bottom of b pillar. wise to check now....
Hope you don't find anything though.
