88 RRC Indicator Stalk Fibre Optic Cable

Hi, have replaced my indicator stalk and was wondering what the fibre optic cable attached to it does (bottom left of picture).

It feeds into a spot under the steering wheel and opposite one from the right hand stalk to converge on a small light bulb - which is blown.

I can't seem to detect any power under any condition to the bulb insert. Any ideas what it does?

    Cheers

I would have thought that the optic cable simply sends some light to the stalk to illuminate the icons of what each stalk does.
Back in the day maybe it was easier to do it this way rather than use bulbs in the stalks themselves .. leds in those days were rare things.

So the bulb where the two fibre optics meet should light up when you switch the park lights on, the bulb then sends some light through the fibre optic to the icons on the stalks to light them up for the driver in dark conditions.

If there is no power to the bulb holder with your park/head lights switched on, trace the wires back to .. one for earth and one should go to the dash light feed. Start with the earth first .. they're usually easier to trace.

Per above, the optic fibre "lights" up (some sort of late 70s/early 80s standard) the two sets of switches.

There is usually a cap of sorts that covers the globe. Did you have that? I think it's held on with a screw.. I tried to get mine off once but it was to much effort at the time just to have a look.

Should just be a simple two wire circuit with a plug along the steering column. Not sure if it is in the same circuit as the dimmer, so make sure it is in its brightest setting to get a proper reading just in case.

To be fair, mine work and unless I am looking at them, I don't notice them.
