    Distributor Cap

G'day, I have a 94 Classic 3.9l V8. Lately the distributor cap is getting a lot of scale buildup on the poles inside. It is causing a misfire, most noticeable at idle and low rpm. It is now at the stage that it won't start sometimes. A quick scraping of the ash buildup on the poles and rotor button fixes the issue for awhile.
What would be causing the scale to build up?
By the way I have modified the dizzy a few years back with the bosch ignition module.
    Regards,
    Phil

    spark erosion.

    replace the rotor and cap.

make sure the hall sensor gap is set correctly.

set the static timing and verify TDC#1 index compared to mark on balancer.

    that's it.

UNLESS your rotor shaft bushes are worn and the dizzy gear has play in it - in which case you need to recondition it.

    Second that.

The wider the gap between the rotor tip and the dissy posts gets the bigger the spark gets, resulting in even more scale.
