    Smashed dashboard top - restorable?

    Hi all,

I'm looking at a barn-find two door (suffix F) as a potential project vehicle - aiming to do a full restoration, within reason.

The car seems fairly complete and rust-free with straight bodywork, the only problem is the completely ruined dashboard. I've attached a picture, are there replacements available for these? I've searched the internet (and have a parts manual coming) but thought I'd ask here in the meantime. I've only ever worked on older Series vehicles, so the idea of plastic on the interior is a bit new to me.

    Cheers,
    - Will

    Hi Will,
A while back a business in Carrum Downs (Vic) was advertising restored dash tops. Their phone number is 0418 333 899, and there is a yard full of dead Rangies near Kilmore at Autofarm that may have one, 03 57822055.
    Good luck,
    Woolly.

That is amazing. is it a different plastic to the later cars ? they seem to just melt and loose there shape.

Ebay - Classic Rangie Parts (the company in Carrum Downs) - they refurbish dadh tops and also wreck 2DR’s.

They aren’t cheap but they are good.

From memory a dash top from them is $1200

I put a whole 81 dash out in the hard rubbish collection (apart from the gauges) a few years ago coz I don't like the gauges up the top. Was in perfect nick.

Also cut up the perfect chassis for the scrappies that trawl the same collection.

    No regrets really.

I did find the original 74 driver's door mirror the other day and it's in pretty good nick. They only had one door mirror in those days.

I'm not sure what happened to this one since I've not been inside yet, but these earlier models hard a hard dashboard as opposed to the fancy one that started in 1985-ish. The "hard dashboards" are notorious for being low quality, I've seen them called the "airfix dashboard" on various other forums.

My 74 has the original dash top and has only seen the inside of a shed for any length of time in the last year. It's in perfect nick.
