    Fuel pump electrical connections

I’m replacing the electric fuel pump on my 1981 V8 Range Rover Classic with a new Facet. The old one had this electrical something but I don’t know what it is to replace it. Not sure if it actually functioned as the lead was already broken. Any ideas please? Many thanks, Chris
Third pic doesn’t contribute to the debate but I like showing off my RRC!

    It’s a capacitor with a missing lug. 1.0uF (microfarad).

    Fuel pump capacitor

Thank you Biggin for your response and information.
Does anyone know the part number for such a capacitor? Thanks.

It is to stop RF interference.
I have never found one on my old RRCs so it may have been added by a radio ham or somesuch.
A normal capacitor for a generator or alternator should work.

Never known those horrible square facet things to emit excessive RF, perhaps the P.O. thought the god awful noise it made through normal operation was RF so they dumped a cap on it. Complete waste of time.
RF suppression on the Alternator and if really bad on the +ve power feed to chassis of the radio.

a 3mH inductor with a couple of 100µF caps is a far more effective suppressor than the tiny alternator caps.

    Edit:

Here you go. Wagner selling a 1000µF sealed suppressor.

Old RRCs never had those square jobs.
They all had the tubular TICK TICK pumps.

OEM electric pumps about $150, so I know why someone put a facet in there. but the mech pump should be able to pull fuel if it's a decent one.

No need for a suppressor on the fuel pump regardless.. if demand exists, it should be on main battery feed in fuse panel for the sensitive circuits that require "clean" power (radio, ECU / ABS on later cars) and sized appropriately (the inductor) and more importantly - fused.

Having said that, I have to say I've not encountered any issues with RF in my RRC, but I also fully admit to having exorcised the price of darkness from most of the vehicle - it's all about perseverence and calculating the effectiveness of the solution versus cost versus "downtime (aka stranded factor, increases exponentially if SWMBO is driving)"
