    Hypothetical

    As the title suggests.

Let's say you cam across a 4dr RRC post 90, (if I said softdash it might create some bias, so include the hard dash RRC's as well) - and it's cheap - well 6K is cheap for a RRC these days, but it comes with a bunch of "spares" and the asking price for the lot is cheaper than separate offers.

But you find a bit of rust in the typical places, front floor, cowl, upper tailgate etc.
The interior's decent, not leather but in very good condition. the load bay cover is in tact and clean.
It's not modified, other than what appear to be the usual ARB bar enhancements.

It looks good mechanically but it's got some km on it, but has a decent service history with no "serious" problems.

You are half-committed to buying it, but the rust scares you a bit, since you have previous experience.

You're also committed to moving interstate in the almost immediate future and would have space for a full body-off resto, and the time to do it, but you also enjoy your current lifestyle, which doesn't involve wrenching on your vehicles or other peoples vehicles on a daily basis.

Would you take the plunge and buy what is roughly 14-15K worth of car and parts on the current market and offer the guy 10K for the lot, or would you pass on the deal, knowing it could be both an opportunity missed, or a bullet dodged.

If you did undertake a project, would you get the body blasted and epoxy primed, before doing a ground-up, or would you be more discerning and only "get rid of the rusty stuff" ?

An echidna for your thoughts (since we don't have feather-tailed gliders or frill-necked lizard copper anymore)...
Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

Buy it ... and drive it. The rust doesn't really soudn like anything. I reckon they all have pin hole rust in the floors. Wet feet, missing floor plugs or leaking plenums

Why do a body off restoration? You will just then own a car that is to shiny to drive and enjoy ...... Unless of course, you are after a project. In that case, go for it!

Are you looking for permission to buy said car?
    Or trying to justify it?

Either way, it sounds like a great idea to me!

You can never have too many land/range Rovers, and a classic is an addictive thing.

Just put yourself 5 years down the track and then 10 years and imagine what you'd be thinking if you hadn't bought it.

Yep, grab projects while you can .... About 20years ago I purchased a ****ty old citroen ds21ie 5psd as a restoration project. Young and dumb for sure.... as there was no way I've been able to afford to "restore" it ... or even looking at it with a family. But its still there when I have the time and money. Not only are they now impossible to find. The ****box I paid $500 for .... if I just re-assembled it without restoration I'd probably now get $15,000 for it. in other words, they are now out of my price range to even buy even as desperate "restoration cases". Range rover classics are heading the same way rapidly.

I don't hitnk about this stuff as the money something is worse. Rather .... Grab one while I can 'cos I like messing around with them. If they become valuable ... well that sucks ... but at least I have one to tinker with. If they become worthless I also don't care. it just means I don't have to worry about it getting stolen
