We used to put Nulon G70 in the whining diffs on Mitsubishi vans years ago.It certainly made them quieter.
I dont know if it would work in a TC.
Oh,if you dont like Transfer Case whine dont ever drive an LC200 on Low range,the straight cut gears whine away with great volume.
Whilst straight cut gears do whine louder, the mere fact that knowing this goes a long way to putting ones mind at ease about the noise.
Yep, that exact symptom exists in the RRC/BWTC combo. Not only that, but if you pull the handbrake lever up half a notch from dead stop, it gets even quieter. I've had the whole mechanism apart, shimmed, bushed, greased, cleaned, tightened, loosened, skewed in every which way to try and identify in exactly which dimensional planes it is quietest.
The truth is, it varies with terrain and vehicle speed. You'll never really nail it down, unless you pull the whole thing apart and rebuild it to machinist tolerances instead of the old pommie 'bung a hole in er there' engineering.
IMHO the best solution has been alluded to earlier.
Buy a second hand Discovery 2 transfer case from a relatively low Ks V8 wreck.
Make sure you get a pre or post 2002 so that you get the spigot for the diff lock. 2 002s do not have any of the external or internal diff lock parts.

Yes, an LT230 Q is a quiet TC, not as strong as some other 230's but that may not be relevant.Quote:

Here's the list I found somewhere of the LT230 types. It is certainly much quieter than the early versions!

Just as an afterthought on this sort of issue - a few weeks ago I thought the transfer case on the 110 was getting a bit noisy. Shortly after this the RH rear wheel bearing failed.
I noticed last week that the noise from the transfer case had disappeared...........
