I would give serious consideration to rebuilding yours. It's not very difficult, there are threads about it on here.

This is about the cheapest new one I've seen, plenty listed for a heck of a lot more:

    Land Rover Parts - SWITCH - INHIBITOR - L/R DISC 2

Christmas is going to create difficulties.

RTC4937 using Google will give options but they seem to be better than $400

You may have already , if you can find the connector , disconnect and earth black possibly but loose reverse light , it will start in any position so dangerous . Splice connect and don`t loose lights , still dangerous .

As his profile lists a RRC then the inhibitor switch is just the switch to enable start in N or P.

    Gear Selector Inhibitor Switch RTC4937 - Devon 4x4 - RTC4937
    They are bloody expensive.
Maybe look in BMW listings as well as the 4HP22 was used in BMW 5 series . Maybe the connector may be different but should be able to be adapted.

There is that. Something for me to watch, as I always view the forum by clicking "New Posts", and sometimes miss the vehicle specific nature of the post.

Tins is correct........ AFAIR there's a post on aulro with pics of one of these being disassembled and repaired........
    do a search.

The one on the Ford C9 in my pos has had this type of treatment and all is good. There is some adjustment available, dunno if that applies to ZF's.

A new one for my application is around $140 in Oz.

If the box is same as Discovery 1, V8, then I have one in Perth. Free, if you remove it yourself from vehicle.

Firstly, is the issue the start lockout, or is the issue no reverse lights?

You can bridge the lockout, and for reverse, you can use a separate switch inline - triggered off the shifter position.

Second method takes a little bit of fabricobbling to make it work, but it's ultimately a better solution.

Did this on mine about 6 months after purchase. Never looked back (except via a mirror)
