I once bought a long range tank and Maxi-Drive (in a complete rear axle) from a D1 to fit into my '86 RRC. The tank didn't fit up to the mounts for the RRC tank. I can't remember exactly - it was about 25 years ago.
The axle was made to fit, replaced the rubber doughnut with a yoke and changed one of the shock absorber mounts. The RRC had one shock angled forward, the other backward. I had to change one side so they both faced the same direction.
My old rear axle assembly went in to the D1 before it was traded in. The dealer would never have been able to clear the ABS error as my rear axle didn't have ABS sensors. :)
If you look in the markets someone has just listed an ad for BW and C4 auto conversions.
