Thanks Gents, So this Spacer doesn't hold theh starter away from block, but rather fills the gap so starter is held or located better?
    regards,

Thanks All, I think in short I can use it to get me out of trouble, it will get me home and a long way if needed, but maybe I should find/make one if I can.

    Thanks all for comments.
    regards,
    Russell.

As RM said it could well outlast the engine but if you look at the 4.4 block and bolt a rover starter you will see a gap all around the machined starter snout, the ring is just for extra support- you could probably get away with some good silastic.

    Starter needed urgently

    Hi All,

When I started this thread I thought that I would have a few weeks left in the starter motor to source another......wrong!!!!!

Its finally gone and I cannot for the life of me find one for the 4.4.

From the replies to the thread I am now urgently after a starter for the 3.5.

If anyone is keen to sell one or knows anybody that does it would be appreciated.

    Thanks again for your replies

A starter out of 3.5,3.9,4.0 or 4.6 should work. My 4.4 now runs a P38 4.0 starter with a spacer. Turns over faster and uses less amperage. The early 3.5 starters are nearly all buggered these days. Good for a door stop.

    Thanks for the offer rovercare,

I am just waiting on a call from a mate that is sourcing one on the mornington peninsula. If I get stuck I may take you up. Thanks again.

Some one will have to make one for you. Where are you located?

If you cant get one I can make one for you next time I'm at the lathe.
I make them a heat shrink fit so it stays on the starter.
    Tony
