Was it the front prop shaft.
Was the centre diff.
Was it the VC unit.
Was it Professor Plum in the library with the candle stick?

I understand your thoughts .... Have had it in the back of my mind too (Harmonics)
The chain "appears" to be fine ... When I first got the box, I grabbed both sides of the drive shafts to give it a twitch // (Auto input side ... Propshaft out put side)
I have been checking it during the constant "strip & fix" times .. as I do know that it is a case of "expect the unexpected"
So I am "fairly sure" that it is OK ...
The front propshaft is in the shop today, getting it checked, stripped then rebuilt & balanced ..... I DO have a theory as to why this shaft is the problem ... Even tho it appears fine ... Only after the check, will it be confirmed (or not)

I'll go for "Professor Plum in the library with the candle stick?" .....
After much agro .... It is still there ... But it appears to be somewhere from in the "front diff & casing area" .... (thanks Blknight / Dave) ... Don't ask me what part, as it has all been ripped apart and looked at very closely
So I am driving it, till something shows "it's ugly head" ... and becomes a bit more obvious.... The other way to find the "drama queen part" is to grab another diff housing complete with diff, axles & CV's and install that
I do have photos which I will post up later ... of installing the latest T/C + a refurbished diff, all new rubbers & suspension + CV's & axles being inspected
It did not "help my cause" with that second T/C box having it's own problems
At the moment it is manageable ... as I am able to "feather it out" with the gas pedal ... so it is no longer a obvious vibration .... As right now ... I just want to enjoy my ride, and take a break from the repairs & maintenance scene
However .... I did get my A/C working again ..... It's nice to be cool again![]()

Several posts back you mentioned putting Truetrac in the front.
I put a Quaife in the front of mine last year , bought second hand off this forum.
Apart from the issue I have with the pinion bearings not having enough preload (it appears as a new seal leaked), you should be aware that it does affect steering, and if you do not have tyres exactlly the same diameter it tends to pull .
Mine is quite noisy especially on overrun at say 60KMh, however I do not know how much from design and how much from bad setup.
It also introduces a "hard spot" as you begin to turn , then suddenly turns. This is subtle but just makes the steering not as good as stock.
I intend to take mine out as soon as I can raise the enthusiasm, and replace it with my original diff centre.
So my advice is to go with an ARB, or Jacmac or Maxi drive if you can find one.

It's OK Phillip .... The TrueTrac is a wish list (hasn't happened yet) .... It has the original rover open center diff in it ... When I pulled the front end apart, I had it inspected by a Well known (retired) diff rebuilder here in Perth, along with the axles, to eliminate this as the cause ... The verdict was "As new" ... Also the CV's and all the bearings have been inspected ..... It is something mi-nute .... I will trip over it sooner or later
The diff (both) was rebuilt by him 2 years ago ... The installed "refurbished diff" was the rear one (as it had a shot pinion bearing) .... The front one was inspected, but no work required
Anyway .... I have a V8 Jet boat to rebuild for next summer

I am not familiar with a "Quaife" diff setup
Seems to be more of a locker than a slipper .... Noisy from bad setup, I would say
Funny thing is .... My Diff man ... spent most of his time telling me the down side of these diffs // Locker & Truetrac... In his opinion ... Great for Speedway .... Shockers for tarmac use ....
His opinion was the same as yours .... Use ARB lockers & be done with it ...

Mike, the Quaife is a helical geared torque biassing diff the same as a Truetrac.
Quaife were one of the first to make them, and AFAIR were first in the Audi Quattro.
That is why I posted. My experience is not quite what they advertise.

And todays entertainment was ....
Replace the Front Output shaft bearing on the transfer case .....
Started at 10am & finished at 7pm .... had a 2hr break in the middle
The seal was leaking and the bearing was crunchy
One of these days I'm gonna find out where this vibration originates from .... Till then, I'm happy with the o'l girl

Sounds like our wheel barrow. Had had two new tyres,new handles and a new tub. Still a good old barrow though
You still got that vibration? You wont have much left to eliminate it soon
My 89 started to get one at high RPM in second, Turned out a spark plug was causing a miss at around 4500 rpm. No wonder it was a bit down on power and heavier on fuel![]()

I know this is gonna sound dumb ... but ... I recon it's the rear output shaft of the Auto vibrating and sending it all the way through to the tailshaft .... The box is a bit of a rough changer .... smooth as, but gives a kick changing from 1st to second (been like that for a couple of years)
It's a hunch after comparing & driving my other recently newly acquired 1993 RRC ...
..... with electric leather seats , sunroof , on gas , on board air ....
