Now getting back to the original topic........

The York compressers were also used in many fords, around the XD models, and earlier from memory. They were pretty robust, but did suffer from cracks in the housing

Using LPG in any systm is extremely dangerous, would void any insurances etc.Wouldnt advise anyone to do it.

Trouble with R134a is condensers had to be well sized,or it did not work as well as R12 in a retro fitted situation.Oils also need to be changed. Some rubber components were also not compatible with the new synthetic oils.

We have used R134a in refrigeration systms since around 1994,and have had no increase in problems than with R12.In low temp applications 134a does not have the capacity that R12 did at the same SST;s.

We still have R12 & use it in some systms. It cannot be manufactured or imported into the country, but if you have some can still be used as long as you have the appropriate licences, and it is used as per legislation.

Some guys were using FR12,with good results, dont know if it is still available..

Mp39,R409a,Sp34E,were others that are/were around ,drop in replacements for R12,but did not work well in auto applications.

There were also some propane type refrigerants around, these were mixed with retardents, but were never popular and have been taken off the market as far as i know.

hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I don't know what a TX is, or a receiver dryer - my knowledge re aircon is fairly limited.

but from everyone's replies, it sounds like I should chat to an aircon recon place to start with.

can anyone recommend a good one in perth? i don't mind travelling north or south.

    cheers, josh
