If you want to swap from an early (vertical) grille to a later (horizontal) grille, or vice versa be prepared to do a fair bit of work...
I spent a little more time looking at this today. Not much because I had other things to do unfortunately. Turns out it is not a 89 model as was sold to me but it is in fact an 86 model. I'm not too sure how different this makes things but, at a glance. It is the LT230(WIN!), the tailgate has a different latch setup, the back seats are different, the bonnet hinges are different, the grille is different(I prefer the 86 grille so will swap it), the door hinges are different(I think), it is the 3.5i.
That's about it at a glance.
Will have a closer look tomorrow.

The other disadvantage to to 90 model is the heater core.
89 Still had a Brass/copper heater core, the 90 model went to an aluminium core with plastic ends. With plenty of off road work the plastic ends break. To change the heater core is a mongrel 8 hrs + job.
88 Model was the best IMHO.
