LT230 out of a Disco or pre viscous Rangie, You will need the longer out put shaft and linkages etc.
I'm also putting a LT230 on my 89 model. Hopefully out of a Defender as has lower high range to help with the oversize tyres.

Have a 93 RR with Viscious centre diff lock and am not that over pleased it it's performance.
Is there a conversion kit that permits removal of the existing Viscious and replace it with a Manual Centre Diff Lock.
Appreciate any advice

I wonder if a replacement VC would be cheaper and easier?

Thanks Guys,
The problem I found with Viscious is that it does not operate unless the front wheels spin, am told they only need about quarter of turn in soin and the viscius locks up and does the job....this works well, unless you get in the problem I encountered.
Front wheels on rock, rear on soft sand, back wheels spun, thus no drive to front wheels..thus am circumspect about the viscius centre diff.
It was tested after the event and was found to be working as designed, 1/4 turn slip and locks ups - but that dosent help if cannit get the front wheels to slip....viscious really handly on the black top when roads are slippy, but not so good in the circumstance I was in.
Thanks for your ideas and tips
I find I can't steer at all in reverse on steep loose terrain.
I don't think the VC locks up too well with torque applied from the wheels back into the drive train. They certainly lock ok with torque from the gearbox direction.
Can anyone confirm this?
I have a differnent technique when reversing back down steep loose terrain. I use 2 feet. One on the brake, Auto selected in first gear. Other foot on the accelerator with a touch above idle on the throttle. I ease off the brake and let let the vehicle start to go backwards, when the bitch won't steer and starts to swing around in the front I give it the gas to straighten up then let it go again. Works for me.
I'll never forget the first time my brother went from his old 84 model 4 speed with the LT95 transfer case and got into his new 90 model. He nearly **** himself when he tried to back down hill. He said to me "how the **** do you drive this thing"
I said "thank god it's not just me. I was starting to think I couldn't drive for ****"
He was so used to throwing the old 4 speed into reverse taking his foot of the brake and driveing with the throttle down hill.
I should have an LT230 with crawler gears in mine by early September with any luck........ and a pile of money thown in.
Looking forward to reversing down a hill without the front trying to overtake the back.
I see it's still dangerously viscious!![]()
