    1982 Range Rover Question's

    Hi all

I have a 1982 four door RRC with LT95 and it has NRC 6800 stenciled in white on the chassis rail can anyone tell me what this stands for, can be seen from under the drivers door. The engine is a 3.5 with 9.35:1 CR, single points distributor how many deg BTDC to correctly set the ignition timing, still has the original pollution control. ie small steel tubing from exhaust ports to the airbox. Also any tips or tricks regarding this engine.

NRC6800 - should be the part number for that type RR chassis. Impossible to say whether it's original or a LR spare part fitted later. (Yes, you can do that easy enough)

Timing and Tips: Use the search function and you'll find what you need, and there is a recent post on 3.9 timing that gives a bit of an idea also - I like using a vacuum gauge better than a particular setting.

It's too long ago for me to remember timing angle.

But easy to remember that the points gap closes up frequently. The point spring exerts too much force on the rubbing block which wears rapidly. When the points gap reduces, fuel consumption increases and starting gets harder (starting suddenly gets hard if the weather changes from dry to wet).

I think I changed to Holden Bosch points to improve this problem, but it was long ago.

Hi Comp engines can be timed between 6 and 9 degrees happily, the lower setting if the vac advance unit is working and you are using non premium ULP.

    Dwell angle is 26 degrees.

I would personally fit a electronic distributor and module from EFI models,(1986) onwards as it will be way more reliable.

Thanks for the reply, would be nice to do some upgrades but no funds at the moment.
I was looking for some tyres for my 98 discovery and found a ad for a 1983 landrover for sale with new tyres for a good price locally so gave him a call thinking it might have been the change over model from 109 to 110. The seller could give no other information other than it was painted blue.
I asked if it had coil or leaf springs he had no idea so went and had a look and it turned out to be a 1982 RRC fitted with factory aircon dual battery's straight body with no rust and excellent interior, 52,000K on the clock.
    Asking price $600
Now in the shed with my other 3 LR's

    Thanks

Not sure that the k's are genuine as there are a couple of tell tale signs, a bit of play in the drivers door hinges and the layshaft bearings are a little noisy in the LT95 but it drives ok and i now have tyres to put on the disco.

No need to worry JC as it wont be cut up, the vehicle was purchased with no rego and my 93 RRC now has a older brother.
Now just need some money to complete all the ongoing projects.

    Hi Mocky

If it is the same as mine used to be, the distributor has advance and retard vaccuum lines. Set the dwell to 26 to 28 degrees first. Then pull both both vacuum pipes off the distributor, make sure the revs are just below 750rpm (sometimes you have to pull off the rocker cover breather from 1 carb to slow it down) and set about 6degrees BTDC. When you stick it all back together it goes way retarded to about 6 +/-2 ATDC, but this is only for emissions at tickover, as soon as you accelarate it disappears.

    good luck
