Interesting how none of us have got over 300k with out a failure, mine spat the rear bearing at 280k wile on a motorway at 110kmh. It was a mess by the time I limped to Cessnock.:( Should have rebuilt it before this happened.
I recon for the sake of two bearings and a set of brushes, may be a diode pack it is far better to rebuild an older alternator even if working OK before doing long trips.
