Interesting how none of us have got over 300k with out a failure, mine spat the rear bearing at 280k wile on a motorway at 110kmh. It was a mess by the time I limped to Cessnock.:( Should have rebuilt it before this happened.
I recon for the sake of two bearings and a set of brushes, may be a diode pack it is far better to rebuild an older alternator even if working OK before doing long trips.

Hi All,
Does anyone know a supplier of MM parts in Melbourne. My 93 LSE Alternator has died. I tried a new after market replacement but had the terminals in the wrong spot so hit rocker cover. They said no other options but a genuine, but I am prepared to rebearing and the electical bits if I could find them locally.
Any help appreciated. Car dead in Woodend!
I ended up paying $545 for an "OEM" from Rovacraft. Inside the box was a DENSO alternator...
Mine is a 95 Classic Vogue SE, July 94 build, serpentine belt on 3.9 V8.
Numbers on the box are:-
A1271 - 100 ALTERNATOR
0763341243
DANO17
Made in EEC
....... And the green-bordered sticker says AMR3107
Mine died of internal shrt circuit, case got very hot, low or no output and no tacho. The tacho failure started me looking...
Maybe I should re-build the dud, if only to have a spare, as the original only lasted 146K - Air suspension and WABCO brake pumps really make them work.

The AU dollar is stronger now than then ( in Feb ) and at the time other US companys were selling aftermaket New alternators for the same AU $127 .24 that our reco MM cost .
Problem with buying OS for yours is that they are a one off here , as in only the 92/3 model and there is a need to be sure it`s the right one .
Could be that US got 93/4 that we didn`t and may be more there ?

I strongly agree I have a limited run type Alternator as I've been to Woodend twice with the wrong alternator, Sparky promising the last one he has fitted to Rangies before. It was close but terminal hit Rocker cover.
It isn't serpentine, but a thinner flat belt replaced the V belt for a couple of years at most.
Looks like I might have to bite the bullet and buy genuine. Interestingly it is sitting beside me here, build date was July 93, just prior to car, so has done good work at 240k's.

I got all my parts from them, Cant recall the name of the bloke I spoke too but they where very helpful and willing too search for the bits.
I just threw out the box from the brush pack the other day :( otherwise I would post up the parts # and brand

Many thanks but due to time constraints I have found a Autoleccy who had no issue rebuilding it. Funny how some say 'not rebuildable' and others say..."not a problem". Concerns me as my Autoleccy was the one who said no go. All a matter of experience and knowledge I suppose.
