Has it helped much? I often wondered about this sort of thing. The blowers in mine seem a bit lazy as well. Looking at replacements other than a update D1 dash.![]()
I have modified the dash vent / clock setup in my Rangie in an effort to get more A/C air to the drivers side.
I have shifted the clock to where the electric mirror controls used to be. I had to lengthen the three wires to achieve that.
I then glued some card behind the original clock mount to smooth the airflow.
I filled the clock hole in the facia with some matching plastic trim cut from an old piece of dash.
I also have some card at the far left end of the dash partially blocking the left hand vents and giving a smoother airflow path to the drivers side.
The UHF is mounted with a couple of brackets screwed through original screw holes in the top of the dash. The dash mat hides most of it.

On fan speed setting II there is enough air coming out of the two vents to the immediate left of the steering column to wave my hair around.
Still next to nothing comes out of the vent to the right of the steering column. I was considering fitting a small fan (computer type) into the pipe that directs air around to the drivers side vent.
I had to replace the blower motor in my work Landcruiser recently. About 1/3 the size of the RRC blower (actual fan part) and shifts about twice the amount of air...
My far right vent is blocked up as I have my EGT gauge placed there, it never flowed much anyway. I like your idea Jon, might give it a go. Also, Tony yes I agree that earthing can be a problem. I also rewired all the main positive wires from the battery terminal where they split up into many and go into the bulkhead they were allk corroded and green. Now I have a working rear demister, a faster blower fan, etc etc. Well worth unwinding the insulation and taking a look I would advise.
