I have followed a white/purple trace wire to a plug that has a opposite wire of the same colours, but larger gauge. this then runs into a loom that appears to go to the back of the car. Would I be right in assumming that it leads to the fuel pump.
Hi All,
On the weekend I had my rangie stall just as I crossed a fairly major road. I couldnt get it started and I tried all the little things to get it to turn over, but nothing. After a epic adventure I eventualy got it home and today when I had my first oppertunity to investigate further, I have found there to be no power at the fuel pump fuse.
Could someone give me a hint/tip as to where I should be looking next, as this is my first LR im not too familier with locations of relays, switches etc.. that I should be looking for.
Also if possible a wiring diagram would help me just as much, if not more.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Kon

Can't find a '89 wiring diagram but its the same colour as the fuel pump wire in a '95 D1 diagram. The fuel pump relay should have this colour wire at terminal 87. Terminal 30 is fused 12volts from the battery. Terminal 86 is fused from the ignition I think. Terminal 85 goes to the ECU, earth this connection with the power on and the relay should operate and run the pump, if all is well!
Thanks for that info.
Now the stupid question. The relay for the fuel pump and the ecu.. Where are they?
I have found a bunch of relays under the dash on the drivers side, none of which appear to have any of the coloured wires the are on the fuse panel entering it. Also a ecu is fairly easy to spot, I must need new glasses as I cant find it.
Thanks again
Better still, just slide the seat fully forward and you will see three relays sitting on the front of the floor strengthener.
The blue one is the fuel pump.

Had a fun time with a 91 RRC Vogue today. It was that it only intermittently ran on petrol. Lucky he has gas running.
I replaced the fuel pump last week thinking that was the problem. well, it wasn't. Today I checked the pump by wiring it direct to a small 12V battery. Pump was fine.
Then used multimeter to check for power at the fuel pump, engine running. Yep, power there! Plug in pump, no power. Oh dear, harness connector problem?
Traced power to fuel pump relay, then to fuse box. Wired a 100W globe to fuse outlet and no probs. Why no power to the fuel pump?
Worked out the main harness runs up the passenger side windscreen pillar and back down behind the spare tyre. Test probed the white/blue stripe wire out of the fuse box, then at the front pillar. Guess what, no power getting through. Mr Lucas must have put a harness plug behind the air cond.
What to do? Snip the harness wire at the fuse box and pillar and crimp in a new section. Lo, pump works.Pics show how I ran a bit of twin core under the a/c and up the side.
