    Rangie Seats - 4 door into 2?

Is it possible to modify front seats from a 4 door to accept seatbelts like those in a 2 door without going through the engineering bit? i.e. take the back off them and bolt in the seat belts? I know they won't tip forward but I'll probably be taking the back seat out anyway.

I'd like a matching pair in my rangie and preferably cloth. It gets a bit slippery and scratchy on the split vinyl ones. Even with seat covers!

    TIA

Except they dont have a tilt mechanism so it will be a tight squeeze into the back seats . Also they exactly the same shape so you wont gain anything except newer seats.

You can get a kit to convert your 2 door to mount the seatbelts on the pillars. I got one from Ritters for $120.

Getting into the back seats doesn't concern me. It won't be used and will probably be taken out anyway.

When did you get them? Do they still have them available? I had heard of them being sold years ago but thought they'd stopped producing them. The next issue would be the need for them to be engineered?

Utlimately, I'd like to get a roll cage in it with harnesses and better seats but that's probably going to be some time off (read years!).

    Why not get yours fixed?
A major cause of the sags is that the Pirelli base has split. They are pretty cheap and an easy DIY job calling for the usual brute strength and dexterity and skinned knuckles. Hint, grind a V into a BIG screwdriver to push the hooks into place.
You could get an upholsterer to put in some new vinyl or cloth.

A four door seat is exactly the same and AFAIR they still had the tilt, but I may be wrong.

Aside from the seatbelt being a bit uncomfortable there is not much wrong with the old seats , and nowadays everything done to seats should be engineered, and in most states any fitting of seatbelt points has to be done by a licenced fitter.

And that is going to cost a lot more than having your old seats fixed.
    Regards Philip A

If you can get the seats out and take the covers off it is surprisingly affordable to get them copied by an auto trimmer for you to re-install.

Don't lose any of the clips and go carefully separating the contact adhesive between the vinyl and foam. I've got an industrial sewing machine and have re-done the seats in mine, it's not hard.

There are UK companies who sell pre-cut and sewn covers also, if you have a bit of a search.

    cheers, DL

Yeah, I would have had them recovered but a few years ago chucked the drivers side and put a Disco unit in. Then a few months ago I thought I should put a proper seat back in because the pillar mounted seat belt I had been using was in it when I bought it but hasn't been tested. SO, I ended up getting another front seat but it's a different style to the original passenger seat and now I want a matching pair. <take a breath!> Hope that makes sense?! The rangie will be my daily drive in the next few weeks and was hoping to eventually get some more comfortable ones.

I still have the one left but the seat belt has been removed - I replied to your add also. The seats should be interchangable drivers to passengers, you can change the sides that the seatbelt is on.
