Ok, the 90 tank has a relief in it to allow clearance for the front of the rear lower arm to bolt onto the chassis. A loss of about 5 litres of fuel. The outlets are the same except the breather hose is about 10mm lower than the perentie tank. Inconsequential. Bolts up exactly the same. Fuel pick up and sender units fit the same. The blanking plate will fit the same too. Pro's? Brand new tank. Clean and rust free. Cheaper than an original tank. Fits the same. Con's? Loss of about 5litres of fuel capacity. Big deal. Fuel gauge tells u when fuel is getting low.

Can carry 2 jerrys on the back if ur worried.

Far as i can work out its a win win situation. Im gonna be happy anyway.

Well i just found another "con". The 90 fuel tank looks so close to the perentie fuel tank in size BUT, the depth is not the same. The perentie tank is 14 1/4" deep the new tank is 12 1/2" deep. I thought it was too good to be true. But like i said, ive got jerry holders and ill prob lose 12litres capacity not 5l. The sender unit is adjustable at the float length wise and i can always bend the stop tabs up or down. I will have to cut the pickup by 1 1/2" thats no biggie. Prob ive got is the PO cut the return pipe of the sender unit so i have to find another one. Hopefully not too hard. Its gotta be a diesel sender coz its got the low fuel warning on it. The "Fun" never ends.

Quick edit. The tank lower half is the same depth, about 6", the top half is shorter by about 1 14". So with the cutout in the bottom as previously mentioned and the loss of the height in the top half i prob lose 8 litres capacity. The other thing ill have to work out is the sender. If i get one from a 90 ill have no probs but if i have to repair the original one im gonna have to adjust the length of the pipe for the low fuel contact thingy. I suppose its only a return line from injectors so wont have much pressure. Hmm thinking aloud.

Today whilst driving my beloved perentie i noticed the alternator charging the batteries at 15.2 volts. Too much i thought. So had a look under the bonnet....nothing visible. So went to local auto sparky got him to look. This is what happened when he touched the wiring at the back of the alt.

    Bugger.
So he lengthened the wires and fitted new terminals and refitted and said might not be the problem but we will see. I know these guys and they are pretty much the best in our area.
So i start the bush pig up... 14.3volts. Great. Fixed.

While i was waiting a gentleman came in with his 1 month old 200 tojo wanting a dual battery set up fitted. Hes from Pt Pirie. These guys reputation is really good. He'll be back Thursday for the quoted 6 to 7 hour job including power sockets and 12 pin trailer plug etc and bcdc redarc charging system fitting. I think its around $4000. for the job. The old couple are towing a caravan on their extended tours around Austraila that started 15 yrs ago. Lucky buggers.

I fitted 5 tyres to the bush pig yesterday. Ive had them for a couple years. I took of 235×65×16 and fitted 750×16 dunlop road grippers onto the original rims that were supposed to be on it. Now ive got a speedo thats only about 5kms out and lighter steering. Still got bright pink rims tho. Noticed the 750's are about 2 inches higher that the 235×65's. No wonder the speedo was 16 kmh out.

    mystery fuel leak

Noticed some drips on garage floor the other day and upon investigation was fuel dripping off chassis next to tank so assumed the worst thinking tank had formed a leak but upon further investigation discovered was coming from join of short section of rubber fuel hose and hard plastic line just before lift pump and running down the line onto chassis- replaced rubber fuel hose section and all sorted-that short section of rubber hose could be good place for a removable mesh inline filter.

Yes I had seen it for sale on and off for a long time, its been sitting idle in sellers yard.
Last message I got from the seller at about 5pm Sat arvo was "I washed it now it wont start"
That gave me an hour of "diagnostic thought" before arriving in Kal.
Solved in about 5 mins, loose negative lead.
Next morning checked fluid levels, drove home.
Canvas top is worn out, other than that as good as most that come into my workshop.

I finally fitted the new 90 fuel tank to my perentie yesterday. Went in great. Luckily for me the PO had disconnected the main fuel pickup line and left it there and ran another line to the monstrous fuel tank he fitted in the rear cargo area. Just gotta wire up the sender unit and low fuel light. No wiring there at all. Might try sort out the reverse lights while im in the rats nest they call the wiring behind the dash and finding the wiring harness to locate the reverse light wires that go to the rear. I love playing with wiring...NOT.

    Cheers Rod
