I also had weird stuff happening. Engine shut down would only work with indicators on. Engine shut off working sometimes. Live wire earthing somewhere on occasions draining the battery in 1/2 hr. But ok other times. All sorted now.

Ok today i looked at the indicator problem. First checked fuses. All good except for heater fan fuse (30 amp???). So i replaced that fuse with 15amp. Tried indicators, still no good. Hazards still working fine. So i checked voltages on all fuses, all good. Ruled out bad contacts. So i pulled the steering column covers off. Bugger me the indicators started working again. So i wiggled tbe connectors and wiring around, still ok. Wiggled switch lever, worked blackout switch, tugged and pulled wiring. Still working ok. Stuffed if i know what the fault is. Cannot reproduce it. So i refitted the covers and it still works. Then i removed the dash facia and replaced the blown fuel gauge globe and removed the green condoms of the remaining gauge globes. Will test if the gauges are brighter tonight. Refitted the dash. Then removed the telltale lights assy and military blackout cover. Cleaned up the contacts and cleaned the fascia. Would love to replace the telltale assy as the indicator pics on the front are worn away. Refitted it and tested it. Ok i guess. Gonna go for a drive tonight. Love driving my perentie.

Bloody bushpig, driving in the city tonight and enjoying the scenery and the carols fireworks. Damn indicators stopped working again. Guess i got more work tomorrow. Last time they started working by themselves. This time they stopped by themselves. Grrr. Hopefully i find the fault this time...

There is an astounding amount of wiring that runs from the instrument panel along the dash tray to the middle of the firewall. Its not that well protected and there’s heaps of older style bullet connectors. It’s no wonder electrical problems occur.
Yes! Hazard switch number one suspect.
I'm sure you have checked but...
The fuse panel on mine has poor connectivity between the fuses and the holder, age, light corrosion or tarnish and my indicators randomly stop working.
Also with a poor connection the fuses can get hot, I had one of the head light fuses start to lightly smoke the other day.
Lucas electrics and old army requirements makes an average electrical system.
P.S and yes as others have pointed out, that dam hazard switch, i sometimes have to on/off, on/off a few times and again the indicators come back to life [tonguewink]
