ohhh the noise, OF my gps talking to me again.....

Havent heard that since it was last in the disco.

to early to tell but so far 50ish km on less than 1/8th of a tank... best guess is now Im good for a reliable 500+ per tank.

ohhhhh so quiet.... and now, climbs the hill near my house in 3rd where I had to downshift to second if I didnt get a good run from the lights. I can now hit 3rd on the hill from a standing start at the lights...

Fitted the rebuilt propshaft for the rear axle, $250..... as opposed to the $1200 HS wanted.

Hi Dave, is all this new lease of life, power and silence just down to the thermo fans? If so, it must be the best 'bang for buck' a Perentie owner could get.
    Cheers, Paul

    yup,

3 inch exhaust with a special changeable down pipe so I can play with turbos and exhaust brakes is next.

then I'll have a talk to the injector pump.

photos shortly when I get a new card reader or work out how to get the camera to wifi.

Got the ol bushpig up on ramps now ready to try fit the power steering. First will repair leaking lhr hub seal and weld the loose brake adjuster. The adjuster has been replaced by the army at some time. Its been bolted together and the bolt comes loose. Prob have to clean the shoes too. Getting it ready for Melrose.

So i tackled the oil leaky lhr hub. Some ppl just should not be allowed within 500 mtrs of a land rover with a spanner in their hand. The reason the hub seal leaked, the seal was bashed into the hub so deep it was hardly touching the seal surface of the stub axle. The seal surface was rusty. Also the wrong spacer was fitted between the inner seal and the inner nut. Had to buy a new spacer and of course lock washer. Already had a new seal. Also had to replace the wheel bearings. They were still ok but starting to mark up a bit. Cheap enough. Timken bearings fitted. Repacked with grease.

Now the brake adjuster snail. Another stufc up. This time by the RAEME mechanic that didnt fit it correctly. The snail hadnt engaged into the adjuster nut splines. Too many spacer washers fitted in the wrong places. So the snail was buggered where the little bolt passes thru it. I managed to get a spare snail kit that had been opened and was told use what i need and bring the rest back. Thanks Pete from PCB Land Rovers. I fitted it the way i thought it should be. It works. So cleaned up all the backing plate and all the rest of the stuff. Refitted the cleaned up shoes and refitted the hub and adjusted the bearings. Fitted the drum and adjusted the brakes. Refitted axle and maxidrive drive member. Tightened the bolts. Refitted the wheel. All good. But i hurt my bloody right knee. So ill be limping for a few days now. Power steering maybe tomorrow. Its just started raining a bit here in Adelaide. More fun...

    Fuel consumption calcs.

Combind city cycle W semi random loads of upto 750KG over Tare (driver + passanger not counted)

    14.1- 14.4 l/100 driven normally

    13.2/100 driven well

12.8/100 driven slow enough to frustrate miss daisy.

I'm not going to post up how bad it is when I drive it like a rental, The v8 owners would be upset to have numbers that bad.
