on the weekend I finally finished my headlight fault finding /wiring upgrade/driving light & light bar instal/ internal lights project.
many delays & interruptions, lots of head scratching, quite a bit of swearing but lots learned along the way. very satisfying now i can drive at night time!
thanks to Tim at traxide for answering some questions that were probably quite silly, and thanks to Badco for sharing some tips after doing his own traxide upgrade.
next project: dual battery instal.

Apparently the LED tail lights I installed do not have built in reflectors so the shop I bought them from advised me to fit reflectors as well.
Went straight through like that.
Finished installing the UHF this afternoon, copied Badco's unit placement :D
installed interior LED light strip a few months ago with dimmer switch
as well as having to use the winch for the first time to get myself out of trouble on the weekend :angel:
next job is to mount a sand flag for a trip to the simpson desert in july

Ok, so not today, but in the last month or so:
-swapped out the rear coils for some softer ones from the rear of a Nissan Patrol, they fit straight in and there are lots of options available. I was lucky - I had a set gathering dust that we'd swapped out of a mates Patrol due it being saggy in the rear end. They are perfect for the Perentie, lifted it slightly and the ride and articulation is much better due to the lower rate (thinner wire diameter). The standard rear coils are over sprung unless heavily loaded.
-fitted a viscous fan, also from a Patrol
-fitted some HD rear drive flanges
-best of all, finished the TD04 HL-19T turbo installation on the weekend. Well not quite finished, as I couldn't wait to drive it but finished enough for 'test driving' purposes, with some detail work still required. Best mod by far, it has transformed the vehicle.
I used to think it was geared a bit too tall, but not any more...I can now accelerate from 100 km/h up a hill that I previously couldn't get up at 100 with foot to the floor. Instant boost response from down low and plenty of top end up to the governor. It feels more driveable than my previous 110 with the stroked V8, however the lack of rev range means gear changes come up quickly when accelerating hard.
As an initial tune, I am using the 1 bar actuator spring, with the rod as short as it goes. Fuel screw is out about 2.5 turns, with very little smoke (less than when n/a).
Note: the egt probe cable is sheathed in stainless braid and there are multiple exposed live terminals on the back of the blackout switch. Have a guess why my egt gauge is no longer working properly....
Is the viscous fan a worthwhile investment? From
a noise or power perspective?
