I stripped the cab and applied the car builder brand butyl sound deadener to all surfaces, 6mm foam to the walls, transmission tunnel, doors and roof and then re did the vinyl floor with a mass loaded vinyl all the way up the bulkhead to the underside of the dash. I filled all the gaps where the gear levers penetrate the tunnel and where the wires penetrate the bulkhead with a closed cell foam. The interior plastic trims where all perishing and cracked so I covered these with carpet to tidy them up and also to help absorb some of the sound.

While I had the cab apart I installed interior led lights with door switches, central locking, a stereo head unit with a reversing camera so I can safely get out of the Coles car park as well as one of those new fang dangle XRS uhf radios from GME. I've just ordered a new fascia plate from the laser cutters for the roof console as this is where I mounted the radio, light switches and UHF.

All in all it was a bigger job than I expected and it was a bit of a challenge refitting the trims after adding the thickness of the carpet and sound deadening but well worth it. The truck is still noisy by nature but it has taken the edge of and now I can actually have a conversation at 100ks an hour.
Sounds like an awesome machine Geoff. We need to see some photos!!! please
    Cheers......Brian

Unfortunately I took less photos than I thought. Here's a few I did take. I'll post more pics when I get home in a week. I'm disappearing up to the hills near Warburton for a week before heading to the island for the gp

Well today I got my Perentie down to get inspected for roadworthy..... and the list was.....

*The inspector was soooo awe-struck with its awesomeness that he passed it without question...
ok ok...not quite, but it did pass first up as:

*ONE BIG ONE - as its older than 25 years, in WA it doesnt require a immobiliser to be fitted.
*it is leak free mostly (and it has oil in it) little leak from sump but that takes a few days to show after a good degrease
*I had already removed front blackout lights, removed blackout switch knobs.
*I stripped and cleaned brakes, painted hubs/wheels.
    *Removed rear seats.
    *Removed side antenna mounts.
    *Fitted an ignition key.
*Added some padding around roll bar braces.
    *Replaced a few globes.
    *Replaced indicator stalk assembly.
    *Had leaking radiator repaired locally.
*Replaced top / bottom radiator hoses.
*Replaced side mirror that fell off on the drive home.

When I went to collect I asked the old guy "are you a Land Rover convert yet?" (I send all my customer vehicles that need a roadworthy to him)
He answered "no I am over them, especially that one, once round the block and I was over it, my arms are sore, give me a Land Cruiser Sahara"

The top and bottom radiator hoses are available very easily through Burson auto parts!

Its not a bad truck, looking at the logbook its spent its life as a driver training vehicle from what i can tell. So no claim to fame in active service.
98K, original engine, gearbox, canvas (which is worn out) but its on its third clutch!

So another Land Rover and another list of "things to do" .... (power steer, PTO winch, move battery to FFR compartment, fit l/h side tank) ohhhhhh..... it really is a disease!
    Regards

I finally got a fuel gauge working and a proper fuel tank. Ive got the interior light working too. Refitted the speedo cable with a hose clamp to hold it onto the back. The PO stuffed the clips that hold it on. Was a new cable too. Grr. All working now. So happy. Looks like the tank holds about 58 litres. No pics. Sorry

Did KFC drive-thru and needed to turn off engine so they could hear my order and required a 3 point turn to get close enough to serving window, once I got there the serving girl said "I really like your car"
