My new perentie... And a few questions!

Nice purchase! I'd have one by now if my GF hadn't decided that a New Zealand holiday was in my best interests :P

Regarding rattles, I've aways found that doing a careful job of identifying each one and either tightening the bolts or bunging some foam in between them helps no end. Then engine speed doesn't really matter.

Lining the tool boxes and compartments with cheap, grey, outdoor carpet could really help quieten the load. I've done this with a number of old ammo boxes that I use for camping gear and also used the same stuff in my dad's S3 ute. Things like semi-ridgid metal handles on cargo boxes can be silenced with a bit of velcro.

How do you remove the spare tire of the Perentie without being crushed by it? It looks like it will drop away as soon as the nut is loosened.

Secondly, how do you get the spare tire back in place once it's removed?
I looks like one person to hold it in place, and another to tighten the nut..

Am I missing something here as I know the spare tire location was a specific request from the army, but it just seems difficult to get to.

The spare tyre will lower as slow as you like.......well as quick as you can spin the nut, you won't get crushed as there is no need to be under the car

To winch the tyre up place the tyre under the winch, place the bracket in the tyre than while holding it there drag the spare towards you to take up the slack than hop out and start winching......the tyre will slowly slide towards the centre of the winch than up. The trick is not to lower the winch too far, just enough to get the bracket in and drag it sideways. Hope that makes sense

Underneath the left hand rear locker there is a hole, Put your lug wrench in there and lower it

Opps, sorry didn't realise some don't know about the nut that is at the end of a shaft which connects to the winch

Cheapest way I found to dull the rattle, was pull the "choke" out a little.
turns out this is just a hand throttle, that connects directly to the foot pedal.

really was just that simple - pull the knob out a touch.
