Cummo - tell me about the G70 Nulon stuff. Did it reduce the gearbox rattle at all?
I've just gone from Castrol VMX-80, which made the gearbox rattle a lot worse, back to plain old engine oil (Super RX) which is quieter than the VMX-80.
Thanks
David

Spudboy,
I've used Nulon G70 in my Series 1 Landie gearbox, transfer case and diffs for the thirty-odd years I've had it on the initial advice of the mechanic who did some minor work on the gearbox way back then. I've since used it in the gearboxes and diffs of all my cars.
G70 is apparently a mix of PTFE (Teflon) with other extreme pressure and anti corrosion compounds. Nulon has a blurb on it on their website describing its formulation and how it works. My gut feeling is yes it works, definitely easing gear changes, but having run it in my vehicles from their first/benchmark oil changes it's hard to compare any changes definitively. How it's described to work makes sense so I've stuck with it. An internet search on reviews for G70 in various vehicle forums generally seem positive also. As far as additives go I think it's reasonably priced.
When I first got my Perentie I contacted the technical department at Nulon to check the suitability of the Nulon diesel engine oil for the LT95, and they advised G70 would be OK in this unit. The operation of the LT95 in my Perentie seems good; it's a little stiff to go into first gear but with gentle pressure it slips in when it's ready :) - all other shifts up and down are fine. No racing gear changes in a Perentie though!
Cheers
Dave
