I'm thinking of getting a more mainstream set of all terrain rims and tyres for highway/beach use and to preserve the proper nobby michelins and perentie rims for special trips away.
What rim type and tyre sizing match is recommended to maintain similar vehicle height but maybe get a slightly smoother highway feel and a reasonable traction on generally hard sand?
Just a no-nonsense day to day mixed use setup that's good on the budget and practical for beach launching.

Mine is getting a set of these shortly in 16x8 about the only half decent looking rims I could find in Australia in that stud pattern and only $200 each lots of good stuff available in the UK but freight gets pretty pricy... these will do me for the time being...

I have seen those advertised on E-bay:
NEW USA Made 16 X 7 PCD 5 X 165 1 Thick Alloy RIM Defender County Series 2A 2 | eBay
Of interest is the line that they suit "Defender, County, Series 2, 2A" and more, but no mention what thread the supplied wheel nuts are. Could be 9/16BSF, 14mm, 16mm. What nuts did you get? Were you given the option to specify a thread?
Nice

I haven't brought them yet, but I assume they would. Not really an issue can get aftermarket wheel nuts from hundreds of suppliers...
For $200 each you could get Wolfs from Graeme Cooper; proper Land Rover wheels. 235/85r16 are definitely the way to go.

Can you post a link or picture of these rims. Are they steelies or actual alloy rims? The only wolf wheels I know of are just "wolf steelies" if this is the case a set of 4x4 steelies can be picked up for around $65 each locally which are excactly the same just not called wolf. The other wolf wheels I know about are a uk company which makes aftermarket alloys in a 5x165.1 stud pattern but they are a bit blingy for a perentie in my opinion.
Wolf Rims, used on the British military "Wolf" Land Rovers - are a steel rim rated to 2200kg each, made in Spain and an official Land Rover product. They are not exactly the same as the generic wolf wannabes, which I understand are mostly not rated or stamped at all.
