			I just registered mine in VIC after a bit of a hassle (even with a compliance plate). In spending a lot of time talking to Vicroads it seems that as it was a defence vehicle the VIN is deleted from the national database which requires the authority to reinstate the VIN on the database. This is apparently the process (according to the bloke from Vicroads) that is used for police and witness protection related vehicles to stop any link from the plate to the individual.
 
I had a Monty Python moment: 
 
"your vehicle doesn't exist" 
"yes, it does, it is parked outside"
"no it isn't, it doesn't exist"... 
 
but after three visits to Vicroads they accepted that the vehicle existed and loaded it onto the VIN database.
