Read on from Post #38 in This Thread.

In Post #51, I confirm that a 6x6 is registered under National Charges as a 2 axle truck because the rear axle spacing is 940mm.

Re the CTP cost, can you get a lower rate by specifying the vehicle as a truck-based Camper Van?

Thats true, but I'd also need to shorten the inter-axle prop shaft. Conversly if I reduce the 4.7 Tonne GVM by 205kg I avoid the heavy vehicle weight tax altogether and the axle spacing is irrelevant for vehicles with a GVM below 4.5 Tonne.

It also saves me $141 in annual registration fees. After all how often do you need to use the whole GVM of your vehicle? Particularly when you can put the 205kg on a trailer and still come in under the GCM (or Gross Train Weight for this vehicle)

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

There is a registration calculator on the Qld. Transport website.

How do you go about registering a 6x6 on a car rego in Queensland?

    Do a bit of googling.
    I found this:
List Of South-east Queensland Approved Engineers - Queensland - SAU Community

    A word of warning:
I was reading somewhere a few weeks ago where a fellow did this and his insurance and registration became more expensive.
A car rego is on a state system but truck rego is nationally administered.
In his case it would have been cheaper to get a light truck licence.
That might apply to you as well. Do a bit of investigation and get back to us.
