    Penrite Oils for a Perentie

I realise this subject has been done to death but I'm still confused.

I'm just coming up for the next service. At the moment I'm using RX Super in engine, gearbox and transfer case. I seem to remember a thread recommending Penrite HPR 30 SAE 20W-60 as a better alternative for the transmission.

Penrite's lube chart gives recommendations for a 4BD1 and 4 speed LT95 110 (1983-1985) with HPR Diesel SAE 20W-60 for the engine and HPR 30 SAE 20W-60 for the transmission. I would prefer the convenience of the same oil for all three. I'm quite happy with the RX Super but the earlier threads mentioned that modern "manual transmission fluids" like HPR 30 are probably preferable.

    My questions are:

    - What is the difference between HPR Diesel and HPR 30 and
    - Can either of them be used for all three locations. Penrite notes that you can use the same oil as in the engine in the transmission (HPR Diesel) but doesn't mention using HPR 30 for everything.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I am no oil expert, but I like Shell Rimula in my 3.0L Hilux for over 200,000 Kms oil every 5000K its similar to Castrol RX. but if I run it past 5000Kms it seems to degrade quickly and sludge up, but then again I drive it without regard for fuel economy.
In my perentie I decided to use all Penrite fluids, engine/ box/ diff and swivel housings (don't forget them)
I use Penrite HPR 15-50 Semi-synthetic the website didn't recommend it for the Isuzu 4BD1, but thinking of long-term oil cost I managed to talk the manager down at autobarn to a good price of approx. $ 5.00 a liter for a 60 Liter drum, I personally think the semi synthetic is probably to thin and high quality for the engine, as after 2000km I noticed by perentie was very hard to warm up on a cold winters morning, (missing and blowing white smoke until it warmed up) once warm no problems with power or anything, I did find 3 glow plugs spent and replaced all four, but many people on side say you don't need glow plugs on the 4bd1.
But last winter was my first winter with my perentie, so hard to tell.

I wonder if anybody else could comment on the use of Penrite HPR 15-50 Oil

I reckon you're probably right. I'm running this oil in the hybrid (3.5 V8 and LT95 gearbox. I'm having issues with it.
I ran a 20W non synthetic Penrite HPR in it before and that was ok.

    That's because it's a Hilux
