Ha, that is a good point. I didn't want to faff around sourcing all the little bits so just got the kit. You can be damned sure it looks **** hot how I have installed it though haha.

WHY???? The factory wiring puts the full voltage thru the switching,you will end up melting the switches.
The Traxide kit uses the original wiring only as a trigger for the relays which draw your power direct from the alternator to the globes.Your lights will be much brighter and you wont destroy the rest of the factory wiring.

Those globes are still on 60/55w (well the plus 120 are), so no difference in load from factory globes.

It's not the globe inserts/reflector whatever you want to call it, it's the bowl behind that, and the chrome rim that holds the whole lot together that have rusted out.

The +130 bulbs are the standard 60/55w. no increased voltage.
I'll be getting a traxride kit eventually to bypass the voltage all going through the switch.

Get rid of the bowls and just use plastic rings

You can get plastic bowls. Can't remember what they are from.

IPF make great inserts, metal, not glass or plastic refleftors. And will take 130/100w globes.

Just finished reading all the posts on replacing the headlights,it seams nobody reads all the posts and takes any notice of what the guru,s say Mick said the best way to fix it how come no one listens to the best advice Cheers all and hope you all had a great Xmas

This indicates that the Bowls (recepticles for teh lights)have failed.

The wiring harnesses for the bulbs are completely melted. One has actually been on fire, but remarkably enough, that lightbulb was the one that still worked.

got all the new stuff in and I think I have screwed up somewhere and cannot work it out.

all good. I'm an idiot, got wires crossed.

ergh. Now it looks like the wiper switch has died. everything works except the water pump (checked that by running cables directly to it and it works)

anything to check before I order a new one?
Also, I get part # PRC 3900 for the combination switch, anyone know if that is correct?

Just noticed something odd. Or maybe it's always been that way and I never noticed.
When I put the HIGH beams on, the main (dipped, whatever the hell you call it) turns off.
When you pull the lever to flash the high beams, the main beams stay on.

Is this normal, or is my combination switch doing strange things?


<Edit> For anyone thinking about doing the wiring upgrade, unless you have the power cables, crimps etc already, buy the Traxide kit.
It will work out much cheaper, and as it's a plug and play kit, it will be much quicker to install as well.
